Capabilities and functions

EIZO calibration software

The EIZO ColorNavigator software has been developed for an easy and very precise calibration of EIZO ColorGraphic monitors. Thanks to this solution you won't have to call upon a colour specialist to realize a precise setting of the monitor. All you will have to do is enter the values for brightness, whitepoint and gamma. ColorNavigator works with a wide variety of measurement devices, and uses the internal 12 or

10BitLookUpTable (LUT) of the ColorGraphic monitors in

order to realize a precise and reliable result in only a few minutes.

ColorNavigator capability

(1)Setting brigtness, whitepoint and gamma of a monitor and creating a profile Choose the values for brightness, whitepoint and gamma, then calibrate the monitor and store the obtained profile. (2)Emulate and generate a profile (CG301W, CG242W, CG241W, CG222W, CG221 und

CG220)

Emulate the colour characteristics of another monitor or another colour space. This function is used for remote proofing or when another monitor in the workflow is the standard monitor. (3)Setting a monitor with previous calibration results. To store calibration results as a profile and use them later to set a monitor. For the various purposes one can store several profiles, for example for webdesign or printing, and use them whenever suitable. (4)Proofing Measuring the monitor's colour space and the colour distance (Delta E) and indicate them together with the monitor profile.

Calibrating on predefined or user-defined values

Predefined values

The predefined values for printing and

photography/design are available with their standard values. After choosing one of the values, the calibration with ColorNavigator will be started. In this way there is no uncertainty for the inexperienced user who is not familiar with colour management.

CG19, when chosingthe six colours correction after calibration, the lack value correction is deactivated; the gamma value

can then only be set between 1,8 and 2,6 in steps of 0,2.

The software has a function to measure the white of the paper used to equal it with the white on the monitor. In case one measures the paper white value, the ColorNavigator will automatically set default values for brightness and whitepoint. The precision of calibration has been tested with the EPSON UltraChrome K3 (Stylus Photo R2400, Stylus

Pro 4800/7800/9800) and with EPSON Photopaper.

Daylight lighting and brightness measurement

With ColorNavigator and a measurement device one can set the brightness of a daylight equipment * to the right value. ColorNavigator then takes the measured brightness value and sets it as the target value for the monitor's calibration in order to an equal brightness exists between monitor and daylight system when one does colour proofing. * For the time being, only Color Communicator 1 and

2 from Just are supported.

Checking the profile

This function measures the colour fields on the

monitor to even the difference(Delta-E)of the monitor's profile and the actually measured values. This allows the user to verify the calibration results, or to see how colours have shifted since the last calibration.

ColorNavigator can also measure the CMYK

colour fields (GRACoL 2006 Coated #1 and

FOGRA39) and show them as AdobePhotoshop

or Acrobat data.* These measurement results for monitor and profile for each colour field are shown either as CIELAB or XYZ values; the difference is shown as Delta-E. The Delta-E deviation can be shown in a graph and can be compared with previous results. * For Macintosh Photoshop CS/CS2/CS3/CS4 or

Acrobat 7/8/9 Professional are required; for

Windows Photoshop CS3 or Acrobat 8/9

Professional.

ColorNavigator can be used with a sensor*

to measure ambient light as well as to automatically set the calibrated white value for the monitor. Is for proofing no daylight device available, or is its value too different from the target value, then this function will take care the monitor's whitepoint directly comes from the ambient light. This allows a precise comparison between (printed) hardcopy and softproofing. * The DataColor Spyder, EIZO EX1, X-Rite

Eye-One Display, Eye-One Monitor, DTP94

and DTP94B are not supported.

Grey balance priority

In order to obtain a more precise whitepoint alignment for every greyscale tone, one can set the software

to give priority to grey balance during calibration. When the grey balance prioritized during calibration, then the software will try to align all points on the greyscale curve as much as possible in relation to the predefined whitepoint.

Following restrictions need to be observed

when calibrating with priority on greyscale: •There is no possibility to set gamma and black value. •Contrast can be restricted. •The resulting colour space after calibration will be different from those obtained after calibration without priority. * DataColor Spyder is not supported.

Because of fluctuations in the editions of various printers, or because of specific project requirements, it could be necessary to perform a very detailed setting of the colour target values of an already well performed calibration. The software allows to set colour tone and saturation for all six primary and secondary colours (Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow), as well as white balance, brightness, black value and gamma. All this in order to achieve the optimal visual result. The user can decide which of the settings he wishes to store for the profile. (settings for 6 colour corrections cannot be stored in the profile). To confirm the calibration results or to obtain a more precise manual setting, a test image can be shown.A full grayscale is then shown, as well as the lower tones (black tones), the higher tones (white tones), gamma values and the ranges with the logo from Eizo and ColorNavigator. Brightness, white point and gamma can manually be set, in which the results are immediately shown in the test image. The test image is divided in greyscales and the

EIZO/ColorNavigator

logo area.Changes of br ightness, whitepoint and gamma are immediately shown on the screen.

ColorNavigator is equipped with a function

to easily use the calibration profiles. In order to use a profile to align the monitor with another device, for example printing or daylight eqyupment, once can use the "duplicate" function to obtain a copy of that profile which one can alter and save under another name. One can thus store as many copies or altered profiles as required.

Reminder for calibration

After its first calibration a monitor must be checked upon regularily in order to maintain its colour precision. The reminder function of ColorNavigator the user is reminded after a previously defined time a recalibration is required.During the first calibration date and time are stored. After the given number of hours of use a LED will light up on the monitor's control panel; at the next start of ColorNavigator a message will be displayed. (not supported for CG19.)
