Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia

History. This publication is an adminis-

trative revision. The changes affected by this revision are listed in the summary of change.

Summary. This regulation prescribes

Department of the Army policy for proper

wear and appearance of Army uniforms and insignia, as worn by officers and enlisted personnel of the Active Army and the U.S.

Army Reserve, as well as by former Sol-

diers.

Applicability. This regulation applies to

the Regular Army, the Army National

Guard/Army National Guard of the United

States, and the U.S. Army Reserve, unless

otherwise stated. In addition, it applies to the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and the Corps of Cadets, United States Military

Academy, only when their respective uni-

form regulations do not include sufficient guidance or instruction. It does not apply to the Chief of Staff of the Army, or former

Chiefs of Staff of the Army, each of whom

may prescribe his or her own uniform. Por- tions of this regulation are punitive. Viola- tion of the specific prohibitions and require- ments of specific portions by Sold iers may result in adverse administrative and/or charges under the Uniform Code of Mili- tary Justice.

Proponent and exception authority.

The proponent of this regulation is the Dep-

uty Chief of Staff, G-1. The proponent has the authority to approve exception s or waivers to this regulation that are consistent with controlling law and regulations. The proponent may delegate this approval au- thority, in writing, to a division chief within the proponent agency or its direct reporting unit or field operating agency in the grade of colonel or the civilian equivalent. Activ- ities may request a waiver to this regulation by providing justification that includes a full analysis of the expected benefits and must include formal review by the activ- ity's senior legal officer. All waiver re- quests will be endorsed by the commander or senior leader of the requesting activity and forwarded through their higher head- quarters to the policy proponent. Refer to

AR 25-30 for specific guidance.

Army internal control process. This

regulation contains internal control provi- sions in accordance with AR 11-2 and iden- tifies key internal controls that must be evaluated (see appendix B).

Supplementation. Supplementation of

this regulation and the establishment of command or local forms are prohibited without prior approval from the Deputy

Chief of Staff, G-1 (DAPE-ZA) (Uniform

Policy), 300 Army Pentagon, Washington,

DC 22310-0300.

Suggested improvements. Users are

invited to send comments and suggested improvements on DA Form 2028 (Recom- mended Changes to Publications and Blank

Forms) directly to the Office of the Deputy

Chief of Staff, G-1 (DAPE-ZA) (Uniform

Policy), 300 Army Pentagon, Washington,

DC 22310-0300.
