?e FAR Adventure Guide is funded in part by a generous matching grant provided by Fremont CountyTourism Council and the City of Cañon City's Community Funding Grant. ?is version, available to all 6th-
grade students in Fremont County, was provded by FAR and Fremont County Regional Health & Wellness. Embracing outdoor recreation and its positive impact on our community, Fremont Adventure Recreation (FAR) was launched in 2010. FAR's mission is to promote a culture of community and healthy living through outdoor recreation in the Royal Gorge Region. Our non-pro?t organization is dedicated to developing outdoor recreation opportunities and supporting adventure events throughout the community. Our partnership with Fremont Regional Health and Wellness (FRHW) is a natural progression toward a healthy community. Serving all 13 Fremont County schools, FRHW provides preventative initiatives and best practices that ben e?t the 5,300-plus students and families in the RE-1, RE-2, and RE-3 school districts. We are pleased to partner with a number of organizations and groups to bring you this new and improved Student Version of the Adventure Guide. We hope you ?nd it helpful and infor- mative, and that you'll use it to explore our beautiful area. We are passionate about contributing to a thriving community, and we realize that none of our e?orts would be possible without collaboration amongst organizations, partnerships with local businesses, and the strong hearts of our many volunteers. Please check out FAR's website (
joinfar.org ) and the FRHW website ( fremontwellness.wee bly.com ) for more information on events and opportunities in our area.45RECREATION AND TRAIL GUIDE TO THE ROYAL GORGE REGION |

Cañon City is located in the "Banana Belt" of Colorado. Our unique geography, nestled in a canyon at the base of the Wet Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Ranges at the foot of the eastern Colorado plains, allows us to enjoy more warm, sunny, precipitation-free days than many of our neighboring areas. Nevertheless, it's always a good idea to pack layers, including a long- sleeved base layer, a rain jacket, pants, gloves, and a hat. We'd love tO see your adventures iN tHe #RoyalGorgeRegiOn.
