Technical Requirements

This document on technical requirements and its companion document on scoping requirements were created as references to understand the differences between the 1991 and the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. The documents only include sections of the Standards that are new or different. Technical requirements are the design and construction specifications e.g. , Door opening shall provide clear width of 32 i
nches minimum, Thresholds shall be ½ inch high maximum. Scoping indicates what needs to be accessible and how many e.g., At least 60% of all public entrances need to comply with 404. These documents are intended as informal guidance; they have not been reviewed by any federal agencies.
