Current Overview of Senior Center Renovation Project

The proposed Senior Center Expansion Project would be completed using CDBG funds which will result in

significantly lowering requests of CIP funds to complete the entire conversion of the building. The project will

consist of creating a large capacity function hall that allows the current marriage wall to close to create

two smaller function spaces depending on the event. The function hall portion of the building will also in-

clude; 2 new handicap accessible bathrooms, approximately 1,000 square feet in storage space, coat clos-

et, food serving counter, heating/AC units, an additional storefront entry, and new exit doors. Kitchen reno-

vations will still be made with CIP funds that have already been allocated and will be completed for Fall

2019.

Renovations to the whole building include: New LED lighting throughout the entire building (which qualifies

the City for cost saving rebates), new acoustical ceiling tiles with sound absorption qualities, significant elec-

trical and plumbing updates, vestibules for both entrances, one large outdoor awning to cover both en-

trances, and a specialized flooring that is both sound absorbent and food/water resistant. The parking area

between the buildings will be completely regraded and repaved to address current drainage, winter icing,

and sewer line issues.

Registration Process: Pre-registration and pre-payment are required for all classes. Programs registrations are ac- cepted in person, mail, online, or over the phone. Pay- ment is expected prior to the start of the first class date. Individuals may register their own family and one other family for programs unless we have specified otherwise. Payment: Full payment is required at the time of registra- tion for classes $40 and under. For programs $41 - $100, a minimum of 50% payment at the time of registration is re- quired along with a signed payment plan. For programs $101 or more there is a minimum $50 payment at the time of registration required along with a signed payment plan. Payment Plan Policy: Payment Plans are available for pro- grams $40 or more. These are 90 day payment plans and can only be set up in person, in the office. When an ac- payment past 90 days, it will be sent to collections. If you are on a payment plan and stop/miss a payment without communicating with us, we may deny or remove the par- ticipant from the activity. If you are on a payment plan and would like to register for a new program, your bal- ance must be under $200 before registration and new payment plan can occur. Non-Residents: Participants who do not live in Auburn must pay an additional fee of $10 per class. This includes senior citizen non-residents, unless otherwise specified. Confirmations: We do not send course confirmations or reminders of enrollment. If you register for a program and do not receive a call from us, you have been accepted into the class and are responsible for knowing class dates, times, and location. Refunds: If we cancel a class or special event, all fees will be refunded. If you withdraw 3 business days before the first class or one time event (excluding weekends & holi- days), you will receive a full refund. If you withdraw fewer than 3 business days before the first class or one time event, you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given if you cancel after the class or the one time event has taken place. If you are dissatisfied with a program af- ter the first class of a session, you must let us know before the second class of the session. We will issue a 50% refund at this time. No refunds will be given after the second class of a session. Refunds take about 14-21 days to process. We do not provide cash refunds. If injury occurs to a par- ticipant that prevents the participant from continuing in a class, you may request a pro-rated refund of the activity fee. Trip Refund: If Auburn Recreation cancels a trip we will re- fund all fees to the participant. If the participant notifies us

3 or more business days before the scheduled trip we will

issue a full refund unless otherwise noted in the brochure. If the participant notifies us fewer than 3 business days be- fore the scheduled trip we will issue a 50% refund. No re- funds will be given the day of the trip or after the trip is held. Inclusion: Auburn Recreation provides reasonable ac- commodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. In order to accommodate your needs a request must be made at least 10 days prior to the first day of the program. Discounts: Auburn Recreation does NOT offer a senior dis- count, sibling discount, or family discount for classes as we attempt to make the classes as low and affordable as possible.

Building Use Priority:

the building use priority list when it comes to scheduling and renting out facilities:

1. Recreation Programs (priority will be given to programs

and activities that are designed for a specific area i.e. bas- ketball in the gym will take priority over a group meeting). These programs are 100% organized and ran through the Recreation Department. Example; Youth Football, Adult Slow

Pitch League, Senior Trip.

2. Co-Sponsored Programs are any programs that are orga-

nized and programmed at least 50% through the Recreation Department and 50% with an instructor, organization, or lo- cal team where the funds and registrations are being col- lected by the Recreation Dept. Also in this category will be any City Sponsored Dept. program. Examples include Chal- lenger Soccer, Line Dancing, LA Swish, RAD with the Auburn

Police Dept.

3. Any local (Auburn area) community group, organization,

team looking to rent the facility and is not offered through the Recreation Dept. Example would be Margaret Murphy Center, Local Home School group, LAYSA, Babe Ruth, Legion

Baseball.

4. Any other external group, organization, or team that are

looking to rent the facility for a NON-COMPETING activity or program. The Recreation Director will have the final decision on deter-mining what is considered a competing and non- competing program. Auburn Recreation offers a variety of employment and volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Whether you need volunteer hours for work or a class or maybe a summer job while schools out, come find out what we can offer! contact us for more information (207) 333-6611 or auburnrec@auburnmaine.gov
