MovingClipstotheTimelinea) MoveacliptoasequenceintheTimelinebyclickingontheclipintheSourcepaneanddraggingitdowntotheTimelinepaneonthelowerright.DragthecliptooneofthevideotrackssuchasVideo1andreleaseandtheclipwillbeplacedintheTimeline.b) WhenyoumovethefirstcliptotheTimeline,youusuallywillgeta"ClipMismatchWarning"messagebox.ThisisaskingyouifyouwanttopreservewhateversettingsyoumadeforthesequenceintheTimelinewhenyoufirstcreatedthisproject,orifyouwantthesequencesettingschangedtomatchthoseoftheclipyou'reimporting.c) Usuallyyou'llwanttoselectChangeSequenceSettingssothesequencematchesthesettingsoftheclipyou'reimporting,suchasthefootageyoushotonavideocamerathatwillbeusedconsistentlyinthemovieyou'recreating.d) Ifthereisaudiowiththeclipyou'removingtotheTimeline,itwillautomaticallybeaddedasoneortwonewtracksofaudiobelowthevideotrack.YoualsocanmoveanaudioonlytracktoyoursequencebydraggingitfromtheSourcepanetoanaudiotrackontheTimeline.e) Youcanmoveadditionalclipstoanypoint,afterthefirstclipintheTimeline,byrepeatingtheprocess-doubleclickingonaclipintheProjectpanetoloaditintheSourcepane,selectingInandOutpointsandthendraggingthecliptotheTimelinetotherightoftheoriginalclip.

OverwriteandInsertEditsa) IfwanttoputanewclipatapointintheTimelinewhereitwilloverlapwiththeexistingclip,youhavetwochoices:b) OverwriteEdit,inwhichtheportionofthenewclipthatoverlapstheoldclipwillreplacethecontentsoftheoldclip.Thusyoumighthavepartofavideointerviewwithsomeonethatyouwanttooverwritewithsome"b-roll"footageofwhatthepersonistalkingabout.c) InsertEdit,inwhichtheoldclipwillbesplitattheinsertionpointforthenewclipandpartoftheoldclipwillbemovedtotherightontheTimelinetomakeroomforthenewclip.Thusyoumighttosplitupavideoclipofascenebyinsertinganewsceneinthemiddleofit.YoucandoOverwriteorInserteditsbymovinganewcliptothesametrackintheTimelineastheexistingcliporbyputtingthenewcliponanewvideotrackabovetheexistingclip.d) IfyoudoanInserteditonanewtrack,itwillstillsplittheoriginalcliponthetrackbelow.IfyoudoanOverwriteeditonanewtrack,itwillnotchangetheoriginalcliponthetrackbelow,butyouwon'tseethatvideobecausethenewvideoisonatrackaboveit.e) TheOverwriteeditisthedefaultseditinPremiere,sosimplydragacliptotheTimelineandPremierewillautomaticallyoverwritetheoverlappingportionoftheexistingclipwiththenewclip.f) TodoanInsertedit,pressandholddowntheCommandkeyontheMackeyboardandthenclickanddragthecliptotheTimeline.ThatwillsplittheexistingclipontheTimelineandshovetherightportionfurtheroutontheTimelinetomakeroomforthenewclip.VIII. WorkingwithMultipleTracksa) Bydefault,PremiereprovidesthreetracksofvideoandsixtracksofaudiointheTimeline.Ifyouneedadditionalvideooraudiotracks,inthemenuatthetopclickonSequence...AddTracks.b) Ifyouhavemultipletracksofvideo,whatevervideoisonthetoptrackintheTimelinewillbeshownwhenthesequenceisplayed,andanyothervideoclipsunderneathwillnotbeseen.c) IfyouhavemultipleaudiotracksthenalltheaudiowillplaysimultaneouslynomatterwhichisaboveorbelowtheothersontheTimeline.d) Ifyouwanttohidethevideofromplayingonthetoptrack(oranytrack)-TurnoffthevideoforaparticulartrackintheTimelinebyclickingontheeyeiconbuttontothefarleftofthetracktohideit.e) Ifyouwanttostoptheaudiofromplayingonaparticularaudiotrack-TurnofftheaudioforaparticulartrackintheTimelinebyclickingonthespeakericonbuttontothefarleftofthetracktomute.IX. EditingClipsintheTimelinea) OnceyouhaveyourclipsintheTimeline,youcanmovethemtotheleftorrightbyjustclickinganddraggingthem.b) YoualsocanshortenclipsintheTimelinebyclickingontheedgeofaclipanddraggingitin.

AudioAudiotracks,eitherthoseassociatedwithyourvideoortracksthatarejustaudio,aredisplayedbelowthevideotrackstowardthebottomofyourTimeline.IfyouwanttostoptheaudiofromplayingonaparticularaudiotrackyoucanturnofftheaudiointheTimelinebyselectingthespeakericonbuttontothefarleft.a) AdjustingVolumeforanEntireTrack1. Toadjustthevolumefortheentiretrack,ontheleftclickonthetinydiamondShowbuttonandselectShowTrackVolume.2. Thenclickontheyellowaudiolevellineanddragitupordowntochangetheaudiolevelfortheentiretrack.b) AdjustingVolumeforanIndividualClip1. Tochangethevolumeforanindividualclip,ontheleftclickonthetinydiamondShowbuttonandselectShowClipVolume.2. Thenclickontheyellowaudiolevellineonaclipanddragitupordowntochangetheaudiolevelforthatclip.c) AdjustingVolumeatMultiplePointsinaClip1. Youalsocanraiseorlowertheaudioatmultiplepointsinacliptocreatefadeinsandfadeoutsinyouraudio.Todothisyouneedtoaddkeyframestotheaudiolevellineforaclip.2. FirstontheleftclickonthetinydiamondShowbuttonandselectShowClipKeyframes.3. YoucreatekeyframesbyholdingdowntheCommandkeyontheMackeyboardandthenclickingontheyellowaudiolevellineatthepointswhereyouwanttheaudiotochange(youalsocanselectthePentoolinthetoolpalettetoaddkeyframes).4. Whenyouthenmoveyourmousecursorbackoverakeyframeyou'llnoticealittlediamondiconappeartothelowerrightofthecursorarrow.Thisindicatesyoucan

Youalsocanmoveakeyframetotheleftorrighttochangethepointforthechangeinaudiovolumebyclickingonthekeyframewiththecursoranddraggingit.7. Todeleteakeyframe,rightclickonitandselectDelete.XI. Transitionsa) Toaddatransitionbetweenclips,suchasacrossdissolvesothefirstclipgraduallyfadesoutasasecondclipfadesin,gototheProjectpaneandclickonthetabforEffects.b) ThenselectVideoTransitionstoseeasetoffoldersthathaveallthedifferenttransitionsthatareavailable.c) Oneofthemostcommonlyusedtransitionsisthecrossdissolve.OpentheDissolvefolderandyou'llseetheCrossDissolvetransitionlistedthere.d) ToaddthetransitionbetweentwoclipsinyourTimelinesequence,positionyourplayheadbetweentwoclips,thenclickonatransitionlikethecrossdissolve,holddownyourmousebutton,dragthetransitiontotheTimelineandreleaseitwhenpositionedbetweenthetwoclips.You'llseeagrayareaaddedbetweentheclips - thisisthetransition.e) Aquickerwaytoaddacrossdissolvebetweentwoclipsistouseakeyboardshortcut:positiontheplayheadbetweenthetwoclipsandpresstheDkeyonyourkeyboard.Atransitionwillbeaddedatthatpoint.f) Bydefaulttransitionsareonesecondlong.Ifyouwanttochangethedurationormovethetransitionslightlytotheleftorright,firstclickonthetinydisclosuretriangleatthefarleftnexttothetitleofthetrackyou'reworkingon(suchasVideo1).Thiswillexpandtheheightofthetracksothetransitioncanbeselected.g) Thendoubleclickonthegraytransitionareabetweenthetwoclips.ThiswillopenupaboxintheSourcepanewithsettingsforthetransition.h) TheexistingDurationisdisplayedinthemiddleoftheboxandyoucanchangeitbytypinginanewnumber(thetimeisdisplayedinhours:minutes:seconds:frames).i) Youcanshiftthepositionofthetransitionsothefirstclipfadesoutearlierorlaterbymanipulatingthedisplayintheupperrightofthethreethickcoloredhorizontallines.Clickonthegraylineinthemiddleandmoveitleftorrighttochangethepositionofthetransitionrelativetothetwoclips.j) Ifyouwanttogetridofthetransition,clickonitintheTimelineandpresstheDeletekeyonyourkeyboard.
