Quick Guide

This document provides instructions on how to use Accessible MSN within the Communicator 5 Accessible Apps

collection to stay connected to international news in the . Requirements: An unlocked device with access to the Internet is required to use Accessible MSN.

Note: Refer to the Getting Started with Communicator 5 Accessible Apps Quick Guide for instructions on how to set

up Communicator 5 Home Page with the accessible apps collection.

Launch Accessible MSN

Launch Communicator 5

On Communicator 5 Home Page, select Accessible MSN to launch it

Open MSN Home Page

Switch to additional buttons for accessing online Training Cards and change MSN Language Refer to the Set Up a Different Language / Region section below for details

Return to the Communicator 5 Home Page

Set Up a Different Language / Region

Accessible MSN selects language and region automatically . To change to a different

language and a different region, follow the steps depending on where the user is within the software.

Right After Launching Accessible MSN

After launching Accessible MSN, select the Info button on the home control toolbar

On the next toolbar, select Change MSN Language

Select the main language category

On the next toolbar, select a region (Use the More button for additional region choices) The right side of the screen automatically updates the language settings based on what is being changed on the left toolbar

After selecting language and region, Accessible MSN automatically switches to the main control toolbar on the left and the

MSN Home Page (in the chosen language) on the right.

When Navigating and Browsing News

Depending on which page the user is on, use the Back button and/or Exit Article button to return to the main control

toolbar.

3. Use the same steps as above to select the main language category and then the region

Navigate the MSN Site and View News

After launching Accessible MSN and/or setting up the preferred language and region, the control toolbar allows easy

navigation through the MSN site to view news with additional accessible options.

Adjust speaker volume, turn on/off

Change language and region

Navigate to the next article in the

direction of the arrow (skipping ads if

Skip Ads was selected)

Switch to the menu toolbar

(Refer to Menu Toolbar below for details)

Open a screen that allows the user

to select a category of articles (Refer to Select Category below for details)

Direct the device to read the title of

the selected article aloud

Jump to the content on the right of

the current selection on the slider, while skipping ads (**This button only appears if the selected item has a slider - usually the top left item on the page.)

Open the selected article

Toggle between scrolling through or

skipping ads

Jump to the content on the left of the

Select Category

Use the More or Back button to navigate through additional categories. The More and Back buttons are always

highlighted (dwell enabled)

Dwell Select Enable selection using eye gaze. This will highlight the buttons with the category names, and will

make them dwell enabled

Pause Dwell Disable selection using eye gaze

Reading Control

If the article has plain text, select the Reading Enabled button, and toggle between it and the Regular Scrolling

mode

Navigate up to the top of the article

Stop device read-aloud

Jump to the suggested article list at

the bottom of the page

Direct the device to read the

selected content aloud

Open a toolbar with video control

buttons, such as Mute, Volume

Control, Play/Pause, Full Screen

Exit the Reading Enabled mode and

switch back to the Regular Scrolling mode

View the photo gallery of the article,

if applicable

Adjust speaker volume, turn on/off
