Mather Campground

Welcome to Mather Campground. Named for the first director of the National Park Service, it is the largest campground in Grand Canyon National Park. Follow these guidelines to help preserve this amazing place for future generations.

Rules and RegulationsVehicles: Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and trailers must remain on the pavement. Do not park in the

road. Maximum vehicle length: 30 feet (9 m).

Fires: Limited to camp stoves and fire rings

provided at each site. Drown res completely before leaving the site, even for a short while.

Do not construct rock re rings or put ashes

and charcoal in dumpsters.

Washing: Do not bathe, wash dishes, or do

laundry at water spigots. Wash at your site and ush tainted water down the toilet. Do not scatter waste water.

Pets: Must be kept on a leash and under

physical control at all times. For the safety of your pet, do not leave them unattended. Pets are not permitted below the rim, on shuttle buses, or in buildings.

Hanging items: All clotheslines, hammocks,

and sports nets must be taken down when not in immediate use. This will prevent wildlife from becoming ensnared and protect your property. Do not pierce trees with nails or other sharp objects.

Quiet hours: 10 pm to 6 am.

Please be considerate of your fellow campers

throughout the day.

Generator hours: 7-9 am and 6-8 pm.

Generators may not be used in Pine Loop.

Check in/out time: Check in at noon; check

out at 11 am. If sites are available, renew after 9 am. Stays limited to 7 consecutive days and

30 days per calendar year.

Food: Store food and trash in your vehicle or

hardsided containers. Do not leave pet food outside. This precaution not only protects us, but a host of Grand Canyon wildlife including elk, deer, ravens, ground squirrels, and even mountain lions.

Trash: Deposit in green dumpsters. Do not

leave trash unattended or hang trash from trees—ravens and other animals will scatter it.

You are responsible for cleaning up your site.

Trenching and digging: To prevent erosion,

ground disturbance is not permitted.

ServicesPay showers, laundry, and change:

Available at Camper Services.

Water tanks: Fill at the dump station near

Camper Services. Do not attach hoses to campground faucets.

Drinking water: See map for locations. Water

is a precious resource; use it conservatively.

Firewood: Purchase wood at Canyon Village

Market “General Store." Do not gather

rewood. OperationsAll sites are assigned. Changing sites may not be possible due to limited availability. Please do not move once checked in unless approved by the park ranger at the kiosk.

Commercial groups: Must stay in Sage Loop.

Sites 1319: Limited to six people, three tents,

and two vehicles.

Group sites: S1, S2, S3, S6, and S7 may have

up to 50 people and three vehicles; sites S4 and

S5 may have up to 25 people with two vehicles.
