International Student Guide:

Applying for your visitor visa or eTA

(studying in Canada for less than 6 months) To study in Canada for less than 6 months, you must apply to Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for a visitor visa or electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Please check the CIC website to see what is required to enter Canada from your home country: eTA In many cases, you will require an electronic Travel Authorization to enter Canada. This application is done online and costs $7. To complete the application, you will need your passport and a credit card.

The application asks for this information : your name, date of birth, city and country of birth, funds

available for your stay in Canada, passport number and issue and expiry dates, email address, and residential address. You will be granted an eTA immediately following your application and $7 payment:

We recommend that you apply online or in person at a Visa Application Centre (VAC). Find the VAC closest to you: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/vac.asp Note: If you are required to submit biometrics (fingerprints), you cannot apply online; you should apply at a VAC: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/biometrics.asp

Supporting documents:

You need to submit your original passport if you are applying for a Temporary Resident

Visa (TRV).

Find out if you are required to provide biometrics (fingerprints). You must not have your biometric fingerprints and photo taken before you submit your application. You can have your biometrics collected after you submit your application and have received a biometric instruction letter which will direct you to a list of points of service you may choose from; or at the same time as you are submitting your application in person at a Visa Application

Centre (VAC).

If you are not required to give biometrics, you must submit a passport sized photo (digital if you apply online and two photos with your name and birthdate written on the back if you apply at a VAC). proof of financial support - include any letters of financial support from a scholarship or from your parents; if your parents are funding your stay, you need to include their bank statement copy of your return flight ± plane ticket or itinerary Pay the application fee ($100.00) and if applicable $85 biometric processing fee. To find out how to pay, check the website of the Canadian visa office that serves your country.
