in1909,butthenreturnedtoMikovatofind awife.HemarriedJuliaZavachyandwent backtotheU.S.in1913.Juliahadtostay behindtolookafterheryoungersisters.The startofWorldWarI,in1914,delayedher yearslater,thatshewasabletojoinher husbandinPittsburgh,Pennsylvania.In thosedaysPittsburghwasanimportant centerforthesteelandcoalindustry.Other familymembersalsolivedthere,including oneofOndrej'sbrothers,twoofJulia's sisters,andtwoofherbrothers.

Ondrejwasahard-workingminerand

constructionworker.HeandJuliahadthree sons,Paul,John,andtheyoungest,Andrew.
