HUNG-UP PARACHUTIST RELEASE ASSEMBLY

HUPRA allows the release a static line parachutist in the event of him being suspended outside the aircraft exit door. The release assembly comprises of a parachute pack with a static line recovery parachute fitted with snap hook and extension strop, as well as an extension cable. When parachutists are dropped by means of the static line system, there is a very remote possibil- ity of the static line being misrouted through a wearer's harness or becoming entangled around his body or equipment. A rapid rescue is then essential, to prevent injury to the parachutist and dam- age to the aircraft. HUPRA Mk3 fulfils this requirement by the attachment of a second parachute and the release of the fouled static line, allowing the parachutist to descend safely.

When a parachutist becomes suspended, the bag

positioned close to the exit door is unzipped, the pack removed, and the snaphook on the recovery parachute static line attached to a floor point ad- jacent to the exit door. The cable assembly is passed through the hung-up static line snaphook attached to the aircraft anchorage cable, and pushed into the body of the snaplock connector.

The recovery parachute is thus connected to the

suspended parachutist. The aircraft anchorage cable is then cut allowing the parachutist to fall clear of the aircraft and to deploy the recovery parachute. The attachment of the equipment and its operation requires two despatchers. It can be used from both fixed wing and rotary aircraft.

The HUPRA Mk3 comprises:

A carrying bag: A quick opening, distinctive red

nylon fabric carrying bag.

A recovery parachute: An aeroconical Type

5000 main canopy, of a flying diameter of 21.3

ft (6.5m). The canopy apex is attached to the deployment bag by a break tie.

An extension strop: The recovery parachute is

attached to a 10 ft (3 m) extension strop ter- minated by a swivel assembly to which the ca- ble sub-assembly is secured.

A pack assembly: A red coated nylon pack as-

sembly.

A cable sub-assembly: Attached to the exten-

sion strop and made of a steel wire 11ft 9in (3.58m) long, both ends fitted with a snaplock connector.
