We identified a relatively large number of articles (n=186) addressing topics related to the key characteristics of community-based organizations and/or networks of community-based organizations.

Strengths and Limitations

In addition to the novel contribution of this review, the primary strength is the breadth of the search (18 databases and citation searches using 15 articles) and the rigorous and transparent methods we used to review and code the search results.
