Computed tomography programs

  • What are the applications of computed tomography?

CT scans can be used to identify disease or injury within various regions of the body.
For example, CT has become a useful screening tool for detecting possible tumors or lesions within the abdomen.
A CT scan of the heart may be ordered when various types of heart disease or abnormalities are suspected..

  • What is a Computerised tomography?

A CT scan is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a combination of X-rays and computer technology to produce images of the inside of the body.
It shows detailed images of any part of the body, including the bones, muscles, fat, organs and blood vessels.
CT scans are more detailed than standard X-rays..

Neutron tomography is a form of computed tomography involving the production of three-dimensional images by the detection of the absorbance of neutrons produced by a neutron source.
It creates a three-dimensional image of an object by combining multiple planar images with a known separation.
It has a resolution of down to 25 μm.
Whilst its resolution is lower than that of X-ray tomography, it can be useful for specimens containing low contrast between the matrix and object of interest; for instance, fossils with a high carbon content, such as plants or vertebrate remains.
