Computed tomography design

  • What are the steps in tomographic image production?

CT is accomplished in three steps—scanning the patient (data acquisition), processing the data (image reconstruction), and displaying the image.Feb 27, 2016.

  • What is the computer tomography method?

The term “computed tomography,” or CT, refers to a computerized x-ray imaging procedure in which a narrow beam of x-rays is aimed at a patient and quickly rotated around the body, producing signals that are processed by the machine's computer to generate cross-sectional images, or “slices.”.

  • When and where was the CT scan developed?

In 1967 Sir Godfrey Hounsfield invented the first CT scanner at EMI Central Research Laboratories using x-ray technology.
In 1971 the first patient brain CT was performed in Wimbledon, England but it was not publicized until a year later..

CT scanning has several advantages over traditional two-dimensional medical radiography. First, CT eliminates the superimposition of images of structures outside the area of interest. Second, CT scans have greater image resolution, enabling examination of finer details.
CT uses a rotating x-ray tube to produce axial (transverse or cross-sectional) tomographic images of the patient as the CT table advances in predetermined small distances after each slice of data acquisition. These axial images are organized into spatially consecutive, parallel image sections (tomographic slices).
