Cosmology particle physics

  • How do particle physics work?

The Standard Model of Particle Physics is scientists' current best theory to describe the most basic building blocks of the universe.
It explains how particles called quarks (which make up protons and neutrons) and leptons (which include electrons) make up all known matter..

  • Particle physics basics

As the universe cooled, conditions became just right to give rise to the building blocks of matter – the quarks and electrons of which we are all made.
A few millionths of a second later, quarks aggregated to produce protons and neutrons.
Within minutes, these protons and neutrons combined into nuclei..

noun. : a branch of physics dealing with the constitution, properties, and interactions of elementary particles especially as revealed in experiments using particle accelerators..

  • Particle physics basics

Particle physics or high energy physics is the study of fundamental particles and forces that constitute matter and radiation.
The fundamental particles in the universe are classified in the Standard Model as fermions (matter particles) and bosons (force-carrying particles)..

  • What is the cosmic frontier particle physics?

The Cosmic Frontier reveals the nature of dark matter and dark energy by using particles from space to explore new phenomena.
Cosmic rays in the earth’s atmosphere, neutrinos from the sun, and gamma rays from deep space, are some of the known natural sources..

  • What physics is used in cosmology?

Cosmology draws on advances from many scientific disciplines, including astrophysics, plasma physics, nuclear physics, particle physics, relativity, and quantum mechanics..

Particle physics is the study of the interactions of elementary particles at high energies, whilst physical cosmology studies the universe as a single physical entity. The interface between these two fields is sometimes referred to as particle cosmology.

International collaboration of particle physicists

The Particle Data Group (PDG) is an international collaboration of particle physicists that compiles and reanalyzes published results related to the properties of particles and fundamental interactions.
It also publishes reviews of theoretical results that are phenomenologically relevant, including those in related fields such as cosmology.
The PDG currently publishes the Review of Particle Physics and its pocket version, the Particle Physics Booklet, which are printed biennially as books, and updated annually via the World Wide Web.
