Liquid based cytology (lbc) ???

  • What is a liquid based cytology?

Liquid-based cytology (LBC) is a new method of preparing cervical samples for cytological examination.
Unlike the conventional 'smear' preparation, it involves making a suspension of cells from the sample and this is used to produce a thin layer of cells on a slide..

  • What is difference between LBC and Pap smear?

In addition, LBC has several other advantages over PAP smear as the material can be used in molecular studies, such as the detection of hrHPV.
Moreover, in the long run, LBC is also cost-effective in mass cervical cancer screening, as LBC is needed less frequently than the conventional PAP smear..

  • What is the instrument used in LBC smear preparation?

    .

    1. Pap Smear Kit
    2. Copper Intrauterine Device
    3. Vacuum Extractors
    4. Digital Colposcope
    5. Gynecology Instrument
    6. Ring Pessary
    7. Cytobrush
    8. Hysteroscopic Pump

  • The LBC technique is based on a two-step procedure: (1) the fixation of the FNA material in an alcohol-based solution (methanol or ethanol depending on the technique, discussed later), and (2) the automated processing of the material to obtain a thin layer of representative cells.
Jun 14, 2022Liquid-based cytology (LBC) is a monolayer slide preparation technology that has outperformed conventional Pap smears because of improved  AbstractSUREPATHSPECIMEN PROCESSING THINPREP
In LBC, samples are collected by completely immersing the sampling device into the company vial containing preservative fluid, whereby the cells are preserved and fixed simultaneously unlike conventional smears where the sample is smeared onto the glass slide and fixed separately.

How does a liquid based cytology filter work?

Cells are collected on the surface of the filter when a vacuum is applied.
The filter is then pressed against a slide to transfer the cells into a 20 mm diameter circle.
Liquid-based cytology improves specimen adequacy.

Is LBC better than direct smear cytology?

Compared to direct smear cytology (DSC), LBC has lower background elements (such as:

  1. cellular debris
  2. inflammatory cells
  3. blood cells)
  4. provides better cell preservation
  5. has a higher satisfaction rate ( 20 - 22 )
