Statistical census analysis

  • What is the census data used to determine?

The census tells us who we are and where we are going as a nation, and helps our communities determine where to build everything from schools to supermarkets, and from homes to hospitals.
It helps the government decide how to distribute funds and assistance to states and localities..

  • Census is the process of collecting data from every member of a population, while sampling is the process of selecting a subset of individuals from a population to represent the whole.
Census data is more accurate and precise than sampling data, as it includes information from every member of the population.

Official census terminology used in the United States and Canada

Census divisions, in Canada and the United States, are areas delineated for the purposes of statistical analysis and presentation; they have no government in and of themselves.
The census divisions of Canada are second-level census geographic unit, below provinces and territories, and above census subdivisions and dissemination areas.
In provinces where they exist, the census division may correspond to a county, a regional municipality or a regional district.
