You can join an existing team of researchers working on an astronomy project as a fellow researcher. Internships are also available at other astronomy centres in India
Admission to the astronomy colleges are done on the basis of merit list. But some colleges prefer to take entrance exams (Mainly at the PG and PhD level) After the completion of the degree the candidates can be offered job positions such as :

Space scientists.

The duration of these courses differs from college to college. But generally, it is for 3 years at the graduate, 2 years at the postgraduate/ master level, and 3 years at the Ph.D. level. Certificate programs related to the astronomy courses field can be as short as 3 months and can even run up to 1 year.
In India, there are limited options to pursue a career in Astronomy after 10+2 education. First off, a student needs to be from the science stream and then can study Science/ Physics or Engineering at the undergraduate level and then select Astrophysics in Masters as well as Doctoral level.
