Previous work has demonstrated that, besides its effects on Ca and bone metabolism, the active form of cholecalciferol, 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (1,25(OH)2D3), possesses pronounced immunomodulatory effects.
1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol: metabolite of vitamin D3 active on bone in anephric rats Nephrectomy prevents completely the bone calcium mobilization response to 25-hydroxycholecalciferol. In contrast it does not prevent this response to 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol.
The molecule has been identified as 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol by means of mass spectrometry, ultraviolet absorption spectrophotometry, and specific chemical reactions. Full text is available as a scanned copy of the original print version.
