Canada reported that it continues to face challenges in achieving a well-sized and prepared teacher population where it is most needed. The priority of providing support and guidance to schools prevails.
It does not include distance learning or online learning, which are provided by schools. In 2019/2020, there were 381,156 students who graduated from high schools in Canada, amid the uncertainty of the early months of the COVID -1 9 pandemic.
However, there is, in fact, no national education system in Canada or a federal education department. School-age education is the individual responsibility of ten provinces and three territories. This article selects the case of Ontario, a province which has become well-known for its commitment to educational excellence and equity.
All school-age children who are resident in Canada have access to free, publicly funded school education in either French and/or English language (see Campbell et al. 2017 ). The federal government is responsible for funding and support for First Nations students who attend on-reserve, band operated schools.
The vast majority of students (91.8%) in Canada attended public schools in 2019/2020, while 7.6% of students attended private/independent schools. Similar to previous years, British Columbia (13.1%) and Quebec (9.8%) had the highest proportion of their students attending private/independent schools.
