OCI-CV is a 21-item scale that assesses symptoms within six theory-based symptom dimensions: doubting/checking, obsessing, washing, hoarding, ordering, and neutralizing.
OCI-CV also provides an overall score that can be used to indicate overall severity of OCD.
A 4-item version of the OCI-R, called the OCI-4, shows promise as an ultra-brief screening tool for identifying likely OCD in settings where in-depth assessment is impractical.
Patients with a positive screen may be referred for further evaluation and appropriate treatment.
The OCI consists of 42 items composing 7 subscales: Washing, Checking, Doubting, Ordering, Obsessing (i.e. having obsessional thoughts), Hoarding, and Mental Neutralising.
Each item is rated on a 5-point (0- 4) scale of symptom distress.
