Review the American Romanticism-Read It on the SMART board Discuss the "Did you know Activity?" as a whole group. Review the American Romanticism section of the Read It.
Small Group Instruction
At their tables, students will analyze American Romanticism by reading Bryon Gill's passage found in American Romanticism- Read It. Students will discuss poetry and its importance in the
American Romantic movement
. Students will then review the Structure of a Poem section of the
Read It.
Groups can check their understanding of the content by completing the self-checks found in this lesson. Individual Practice Students will annotate Emily Dickinson's poem, "Because I could not stop for Death" ("The Chariot") in the American
Romanticism- Read It.
As students read the poem, they will practice annotating each stanza.

Whole Group Instruction
As a group, we will review our annotations and thoughts on Emily Dickinson's poem, "Because I could not stop for Death" ("The Chariot"). As students leave the class, they will complete an exit slip that defines their interpretation of Dickinson's overall message.
