Groups can check their understanding of the content by completing the self-checks found in this lesson. Individual Practice Students will annotate Emily Dickinson's poem, "Because I could not stop for Death" ("The Chariot") in the American

As students read the poem, they will practice annotating each stanza.

As a group, we will review our annotations and thoughts on Emily Dickinson's poem, "Because I could not stop for Death" ("The Chariot"). As students leave the class, they will complete an exit slip that defines their interpretation of Dickinson's overall message.
