O Canada!

Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada!

Terre de nos aïeux,

Ton front est ceint de ?eurons glorieux!

Car ton bras sait porter l"épée,

Il sait porter la croix!

Ton histoire est une épopée

Des plus brillants exploits.

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,

Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

The tradition of the gown began in the

medieval universities of Europe. The practice of wearing gowns became more widespread when gowns were established as the o?cial dress of academics in the

14th century. Historians believe that the

long gowns may have been necessary for warmth in the unheated buildings used by medieval scholars, or they may reflect the strong ties that existed then between academic and religious institutions.

The Gown

The distinctive and colourful gowns worn

by the Sheridan faculty in the academic procession today signify the institution from which they graduated and the degree they have earned. The gown for the Bachelor's degree is typically black and has pointed sleeves and is worn closed in the front; the gown for the Master's degree is typically black and has longer oblong sleeves; and the gown representing a Doctorate is very full and has large, full sleeves with the front trimmed in velvet, and three bars of velvet on each sleeve. Those Sheridan students who are earning their Bachelor's degree wear the traditional black gown and students graduating with certicates, graduate certicates and diplomas wear royal blue gowns. The Hood

Sheridan Bachelor's degree holders wear

a hood draped over the shoulders and back. The satin lining of the hood has been designed to reflect the Sheridan colours of "double blue." The colour of the band that surrounds the hood symbolizes the discipline in which the degree is being granted.

• Fine Arts - White

• Health - Gold

• Computer Science - Maroon

• Business - Beige

• Interior Design - Bilberry

The Liripipe

The liripipe is a European medieval

symbol of academic achievement dating back to the eighth century. It marks the achievement of excellence in the chosen program and symbolizes the graduate's membership in the international community of scholars. The liripipe is bestowed on graduates from certicate, diploma and graduate certicate programs.
