1 Opening 9: Conflict Prevention Centre/ Forum for Security Co 1 Opening 9: Conflict Prevention Centre/ Forum for Security Co-operation (CPC/FSC) The Conflict Prevention Centre (CPC) plays a key role in supporting and co-ordinating the OSCE's activities aimed at reducing tensions, responding to conflict situations and providing support in addressing the root causes of conflicts and instability through structural prevention and peacebuilding. It facilitates the work of OSCE field operations, provides analysis and policy advice to the Secretary General and the Chairperson-in- activities in developing and implementing conflict cycle toolbox and supporting various negotiating formats and special/personal representatives dealing with protracted conflicts. The CPC also serves as the focal point in the Secretariat for coordinating and developing OSCE's role in the politico-military dimension and supporting the work of the OSCE Forum for Security

Co-operation (FSC).

The Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) is the main OSCE body dealing with the politico- military aspects of security and provides a forum for political dialogue for OSCE participating States. The FSC Support section within the Conflict Prevention Centre at the OSCE Secretariat supports the work of the FSC by providing technical support and expertise. In this respect, the Section acts as a focal point and prepares reports and overviews on military information exchanged by participating States. The Section also fosters implementation of Confidence and Security-building Measures (CSBMs) and develops assistance projects with regard to Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and Conventional Ammunition.

Tasks and responsibilities:

1. Assists in the preparations of workshops, conferences and trainings and co-ordinates the

participation of speakers in regard to the SALW/SCA normative aspects and the Code of

Conduct;

2. Drafts reports, surveys, notes of the meetings, inputs for talking points and presentations;

conducts background research and analysis on confidence and security building measures;

3. Collects data and conduct background research and analysis on given topics with regards

to SALW/SCA and the Code of Conduct on Politico-Military Aspects of Security; assists in compiling collected data and background information to further build up OSCE expertise and knowledge;

4. Assists in preparation for 14th Heads of Verification meeting;

5. Supports the military information exchange on Vienna Document and other confidence and

security building measures;

6. Supports planning, discussions, coordination, negotiations, and performs other FSC

Support Section`s duties related to the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation meetings and the FSC Chairmanship; 2

7. Assists in duties related to support the Chairmanship of the Forum for Security Co-

operation, FSC Ch-ordinators, the Chairperson of the Informal Group of Friends on SALW/SCA, and the Code of Conduct Core group meetings.quotesdbs_dbs31.pdfusesText_37
