ADDITIONAL RULES

1.Entries must reach the Superintendent, Jack Bradshaw by Noon, Wednesday, April 7, 2021.. Fees should

accompany entries. This club and/or its superintendent assumes no responsibility for wrong or incomplete

information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. This club and its superintendents

assume no responsibility for the owner or owner's agents entering a dog in a class in which the dog is not eligible

to compete, or for entering the same dog twice.

2.Returned Checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Superintendent will add a collection fee to the

amount of each returned check and declined credit card. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may

result in their being put on a cash only basis. The returned check or declined credit card must be made good by

cash or money order before the dog will be allowed in the ring.

3.Exhibitors' Identification tickets and judging programs will be mailed to the address given on the entry

blank. If not received within a reasonable time prior to the show, notify the superintendent. Tickets returned by

the Post Office marked 'undeliverable' will be held at the Superintendent's Office. Please bring your identification

tickets to the show.

4.During the hours of judging owners are to be on call, and have their dogs ready to bring into the judging

ring promptly, in order that the judging will not be delayed. Dogs need only be present for their judging. Dogs not

needed for further judging may be excused. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his dog ready to be

shown and at the entrance of the judging ring when the steward calls for the class. Owners of dogs or the handlers

of the dogs alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in

the judging rings. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor of any agent of the show-giving

club to locate any dog, its owner or handler, when the dog's presence is needed in a judging ring. It should be

understood by every exhibitor and handler that waiting for dogs to be brought into the ring is a courtesy extended

to the owner or handler of the dog. There is no rule of this club nor of The American Kennel Club that requires a

judge to wait for an owner or handler to bring his dog into the ring.

5.Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the

breed and the superintendent's office advised at once, in the event of any discrepancy. All trophies must be claimed the day of the show. None will be mailed.

6.Exhibitors are admonished to make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this premium list. Rule books are available onlineat www.akc.org.

7.The club, its superintendents or their employees will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to any

dog exhibited, whether the result of accident or other causes and in addition assumes no responsibility for any loss,

damage

or injury sustained by an exhibitor or handler. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in

the care and custody and control of his owner or handler during the entire time the dog is on the show premises.

8.No grooming tables, pens or exhibitors' setups will be allowed in the aisles and all grooming must be

done away from the judging ring in areas specified by the club.

9.Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by

veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the Bench Show Committee, or because the dog is

ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no refund of entry fee for duplicate entry. There

will be a $4.00 fee charged for cancellation of entry prior to closing of entries.

10.There is no provision offered for unentered dogs at this show.

11.Declination of Entries. The Kennel Club of Riverside may decline any entries for cause and may refuse

to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any

claim or recourse against the Kennel Club or any official thereof.

12.If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management, it isimpossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry will be made.

13.Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles.

14.Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship after

the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the

regular classes to the Best of Breed or Variety Competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent

at least one half hour prior to the start of the earliest Conformation judging at the Show.

15.Junior Handlers who win a third Novice Class after the Closing of entries for a show may transfer their

entry

from the Novice Class to the Open Class provided that this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least

one half-hour prior to the scheduled start of the earliest conformation judging or one half-hour prior to the

scheduled start of Junior Showmanship judging at the Show, whichever is earlier.

16.No practicing allowed in rings at any time.

17.Parents and/or Guardians are responsible for the actions of their children.

There occasionally arises a situation where an attendee's behavior in the hotel or at an event site becomes a cause for an unhappy situation that compels the club to take action in order to maintain good relations with the hotels and/or the show site. Common sense and courtesy should dictate your actions to avoid such situations. To assist us in rectifying any problems with individuals or their dogs promptly, the hotel staff will inspect all rooms daily and shall report to the event committee any observed violations or damages. The event committee and security will be observing conduct at the show sites as well. Complaints will be investigated, and the parties involved will be asked to comply with required corrective actions immediately. Each dog owner, guest or registrant is expected to cooperate; cease and desist offensive actions; settle damage claims on the spot; and provide insurance or other pertinent information as required or requested. The Shetland Sheepdog Breed Standard

General Appearance

Preamble: The Shetland Sheepdog, like the Collie, traces to the Border Collie of Scotland, which, transported to the Shetland Islands and crossed with small, intelligent, longhaired breeds, was reduced to miniature proportions. Subsequently crosses were made from time to time with Collies. This breed now bears the same relationship in size and general appearance to the Rough Collie as the Shetland Pony does to some of the larger breeds of horses. Although the resemblance between the Shetland Sheepdog and the Rough Collie is marked, there are differences which may be noted. The Shetland Sheepdog is a small, alert, rough-coated, longhaired working dog. He must be sound, agile and sturdy. The outline should be so symmetrical that no part appears out of proportion to the whole. Dogs should appear masculine; bitches feminine.

Size, Proportion, Substance

The Shetland Sheepdog should stand between 13 and 16 inches at the shoulder. Note: Height is determined by a line perpendicular to the ground from the top of the shoulder blades, the dog standing naturally, with forelegs parallel to line of measurement. Disqualifications-- Heights below or above the desired size range are to be disqualified from the show ring. In overall appearance, the body should appear moderately long as measured from shoulder joint to ischium (rearmost extremity of the pelvic bone), but much of this length is actually due to the proper angulation and breadth of the shoulder and hindquarter, as the back itself should be comparatively short. Head The head should be refined and its shape, when viewed from top or side, should be a long, blunt wedge tapering slightly from ears to nose. Expression-- Contours and chiseling of the head, the shape, set and use of ears, the placement, shape and color of the eyes combine to produce expression. Normally the expression should be alert, gentle, intelligent and questioning. Toward strangers the eyes should show watchfulness and reserve, but no fear. Eyes medium size with dark, almond-shaped rims, set somewhat obliquely in skull. Color must be dark, with blue or merle eyes permissible in blue merles only. Faults-- Light, round, large or too small. Prominent haws. Ears small and flexible, placed high, carried three-fourths erect, with tips breaking forward. When in repose the ears fold lengthwise and are thrown back into the frill. Faults-- Set too low. Hound, prick, bat, twisted ears. Leather too thick or too thin. Skull and Muzzle Top of skull should be flat, showing no prominence at nuchal crest (the top of the occiput). Cheeks should be flat and should merge smoothly into a well-rounded muzzle. Skull and muzzle should be of equal length, balance point being inner corner of eye. In profile the top line of skull should parallel the top line of muzzle, but on a higher plane due to the presence of a slight but definite stop. Jaws clean and powerful. The deep, well-developed underjaw, rounded at chin, should extend to base of nostril. Nose must be black. Lips tight. Upper and lower lips must meet and fit smoothly together all the way around. Teeth level and evenly spaced. Scissors bite. 14 Faults-- Two-angled head. Too prominent stop, or no stop. Overfill below, between, or above eyes. Prominent nuchal crest. Domed skull. Prominent cheekbones. Snipy muzzle. Short, receding, or shallow underjaw, lacking breadth and depth. Overshot or undershot, missing or crooked teeth. Teeth visible when mouth is closed.

Neck, Topline, Body

Neck should be muscular, arched, and of sufficient length to carry the head proudly. Faults-- Too short and thick. Back should be level and strongly muscled. Chest should be deep, the brisket reaching to point of elbow. The ribs should be well sprung, but flattened at their lower half to allow free play of the foreleg and shoulder. Abdomen moderately tucked up. Faults-- Back too long, too short, swayed or roached. Barrel ribs. Slab-side. Chest narrow and/or too shallow. There should be a slight arch at the loins, and the croup should slope gradually to the rear. The hipbone (pelvis) should be set at a 30-degree angle to the spine. Faults-- Croup higher than withers. Croup too straight or too steep.

The tail should be sufficiently long so that when it is laid along the back edge of the hind legs the

last vertebra will reach the hock joint. Carriage of tail at rest is straight down or in a slight upward curve. When the dog is alert the tail is normally lifted, but it should not be curved forward over the back.

Faults-- Too short. Twisted at end.

Forequarters

From the withers, the shoulder blades should slope at a 45-degree angle forward and downward to the shoulder joints. At the withers they are separated only by the vertebra, but they must slope outward sufficiently to accommodate the desired spring of rib. The upper arm should join the shoulder blade at as nearly as possible a right angle. Elbow joint should be equidistant from the ground and from the withers. Forelegs straight viewed from all angles, muscular and clean, and of strong bone. Pasterns very strong, sinewy and flexible. Dewclaws may be removed. Faults-- Insufficient angulation between shoulder and upper arm. Upper arm too short. Lack of outward slope of shoulders. Loose shoulders. Turning in or out of elbows. Crooked legs. Light bone. Feet should be oval and compact with the toes well arched and fitting tightly together. Pads deep and tough, nails hard and strong. Faults-- Feet turning in or out. Splay feet. Hare feet. Cat feet.

Hindquarters

The thigh should be broad and muscular. The thighbone should be set into the pelvis at a right angle corresponding to the angle of the shoulder blade and upper arm. Stifle bones join the thighbone and should be distinctly angled at the stifle joint.

The overall length of the stifle

should at least equal the length of the thighbone, and preferably should slightly exceed it. Hock joint should be clean-cut, angular, sinewy, with good bone and strong ligamentation. The hock (metatarsus) should be short and straight viewed from all angles. Dewclaws should be removed. Faults-- Narrow thighs. Cow-hocks. Hocks turning out. Poorly defined hock joint.

Feet as in forequarters.

Coat The coat should be double, the outer coat consisting of long, straight, harsh hair; the undercoat

short, furry, and so dense as to give the entire coat its "standoff" quality. The hair on face, tips of

ears and feet should be smooth. Mane and frill should be abundant, and particularly impressive 15 in males. The forelegs well feathered, the hind legs heavily so, but smooth below the hock joint. Hair on tail profuse. Note: Excess-hair on ears, feet, and on hocks may be trimmed for the show

ring. Faults-- Coat short or flat, in whole or in part; wavy, curly, soft or silky. Lack of undercoat.

Smooth-coated specimens.

Color Black, blue merle, and sable (ranging from golden through mahogany); marked with varying amounts of white and/or tan. Faults-- Rustiness in a black or a blue coat. Washed-out or degenerate colors, such as pale sable a nd faded blue. Self-color in the case of blue merle, that is, without any merling or mottling and generally appearing as a faded or dilute tri -color. Conspicuous white body spots. Specimens with more than 50 percent white shall be so severely penalized as to effectively eliminate them from competition. Disqualification-- Brindle. Gait The trotting gait of the Shetland Sheepdog should denote effortless speed and smoothness. There should be no jerkiness, nor stiff, stilted, up-and-down movement. The drive should be from thequotesdbs_dbs28.pdfusesText_34
