?is is the third issue of VOX in Covid times. For the third time, contributions from national sections touch once and again on the impact of the pandemic. All with a great deal of resolve; all making good of what can be-volunteers work, enhanced use of digital devices, new ways of meeting and working - and more.

Pardo, speaks also about the exceptional

situation the world is going through and how the European Union is deploying ex- ceptional measures to cope with its conse- quences, and he gives us a global view on his wide and important portfolio. ere is some good news about this issue. e ?rst one is that we keep getting more contributions, excellent unexpected contri- butions. You will ?nd for example the ?rst presentation of a book by ex-Commissio- ner Liikanen and an article on COVID and

EU ?scal policies by ex-Director-General

Edith Kitzmantel.

ere is also a detailed and well docu- mented article on Erasmus and Erasmus +, which has got us thinking about a possible new section reviewing EU policies and ac- tions, such as Erasmus, with a substantial

European impact.

A second one, that we are getting also more

letters to the editor. Two issues of VOX

117 seem to have captured the attention of

our readers: the ongoing discussion about green policies and Eric Halskov's article "But we won the war". We have selected some of them for publication.

But the main news in this issue is the

election of the new President and Vice-

President of AIACE International:

Dominique Deshayes (the ?rst woman

at the helm of AIACE International) and

Panos Carvounis. We have kept open

this issue for this announcement, and we much appreciate that Dominique has sent us her ?rst contribution as President not two hours aer her election.

As a farewell, we wish to thank and to

congratulate President Díaz Pardo for his remarkable work for AIACE. His active cooperation with the Commission, some- times highly visible as in the signature of the renewed Cooperation and Partnership

Agreement, sometimes in silence ("in the

backstage" as he uses to say), as in a conti- nuing and fruitful dialogue with DG HR and PMO, and his initiative on European

Civil Service are achievements we will

remember and he may be proud of. Let me thank him also his active interest and support for VOX, as an important commu- nication tool with all pensioners .

Certainement le cauchemar de la pandé-

mie Covid-19 depuis plus d'un an mar- quera, et le fait déjà, notre histoire récente.

Mais 2021 devrait être l'année de l'espoir.

?lles" de l'espoir- devra continuer à nous guider et à présider l'Europe et nous tous:

L'Union, comme on le soulignait dans

le VOX 117, avait fait preuve de déter- mination, avec une réponse coordon- née, tant au niveau des ressources-tout en ouvrant d'ailleurs des fenêtres d'op- portunité de mise en commun de souve- raineté-comme, par la suite, au niveau sanitaire notamment en ce qui concerne une stratégie et une action communes au sujet des vaccins.
