Syllabus

Prerequisites/

requirements Students should have an intermediate level of English, so as to be able to understand the main points of clear standard texts on familiar matters and in the news, as well as produce simple spoken and written connected text on general/familiar topics. Students should know and understand basic differences between the English and Italian language systems as the basis for accurate translation of short texts from/into English in a way that is appropriate at a lexico-grammar level. In order to access the exam, students must have completed the requirements for the 1st year exam.

Knowledge and Understanding

A good knowledge of English as the basis for the understanding of the key points of relatively complex texts on different aspects of culture.

Appying knowledge and understanding

A good knowledge and understanding of systemic differences between the English and Italian language, to be applied in the translation of texts from/into English. Knowledge of key translation strategies aimed at the production of target texts that correct and fluent at a lexico-grammar level and appropriate at intercultural level.

Sensitivity to language variation and cultural awareness in the analysis, interpretation and summary of texts on general topics.

Communicating knowledge and understanding

Spoken and written communicative skills as the basis for interaction that is correct at the level of lexico-grammar and consistent with the context of situation and culture.
