Text A: What Are the Benefits of Sport and Physical Activities? Sports and physical activities both fall under the category of exercise. Any time you move your body in a repetitive fashion for any length of time, you are performing physical activity. To gain the benefits of sport and activity, you should stick with something you enjoy. This will keep you motivated to continually participate. When you are inactive, you are highly susceptible to a number of chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure, high triglycerides, diabetes and high cholesterol. Aerobic physical activity can help eliminate or reduce all of these risk factors, according to the American Heart Association. Aerobic activity is the same as cardiovascular activity. Running, biking, elliptical training, swimming, rowing and walking are examples. Being overweight or obese is a contributor to chronic diseases as well as a lower self- esteem. Sport and physical activity can help you reduce your weight, because they burn calories efficiently. The key thing is to work out at a moderate or higher pace and to exercise long enough. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends 150 to 250 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity weekly to achieve weight loss. As an added benefit, losing weight will take excess stress off your joints and enable you to move more efficiently. Sport and physical activity have more than just a physical impact on the body. During the course of a game or exercise session, your brain releases chemicals that can put you at ease and make you feel more relaxed. This is beneficial, especially if you have a stressful job or personal life and you need a distraction. Yoga is a form of physical activity that involves holding your body in a fixed position for an extended period of time. This type of activity helps improve your flexibility. Having better flexibility will help you get around with more ease. Any type of stretching will also have this effect on the body.

There are lots of sports heroes. professional sportsmen and women are very good at doing sport and they earn huge salaries for doing their sports professionally. But this does not mean that people do more sport these days. In fact, statistics in many without watching football. If you turn on television, there is always a football match or som doing sport? Or have we simply become lazy? As we all know, sport is good for us. There are both psychological and physiological t the physiological benefits first. Eating correctly and exercising keeps us healthy. Sport is also a good way of keeping in shape. It makes us fit and strong. It makes our bodies look good and it keeps our muscles, heart and lungs working properly. In other ways. Participating in sports can build character as well. It increases our self-esteem. It also teaches us how to obey rules, how to be fair and how to be considerate to others. Taking part in sports can also give us the chance to become more self-disciplined, to learn how to compete with others and to develop leardership skills. they are born, girls are forced to realize that even instances wherein only talent and passion are the

quintessential distinguishers, they are still to be inferior to their male counterparts. also one that is filled with major accomplishments by female athletes and important advances for gender equality. Among many, some of the most notable achievements of women in sports are those of Helene Madison of the United States of America, the first woman to win the 10-yard freestyle in one minute at the 1932 Olympics, Maria-Teresa de Filippis of Italy, the first woman to compete in a European Grand Prix auto race in 1958, and Tegla Loroupe of Kenya, who in 1994 became the first African woman to win a major marathon. These achievements were made in the face of numerous barriers based on gender discrimination. Many factors have led to the continuance of this ill practice; one such factor being the media. By

lesser representation of the achievements of women in sports, the media has cut down the

possibility of a farther reach of talent possessed by female athletes to the audience. Several studies

done on media coverage of women sports go on to prove that women sports are generally ignored or are given very less importance. In addition, sexual harassment has also been a major concern, especially in developing countries like India. Also, women are often perceived as being too weak

for sport, particularly endurance sports like marathons and weightlifting. Most people still hold the
