Exchange students are allowed to attend several study programmes, both Bachelor/Baccalauréat/Undergraduate

programmes (1st ² 3rd year) and Master/Maîtrise/Graduate programmes (4th and 5th year).

Classes are held in French. For some courses, especially in the fields of Science, books may be in English.

during their mobility period at the Université de Montréal are not allowed to attend courses held in Graduate Degree

programmes. Applicants who will be enrolled in their 4th or 5th yHMU RI M ´OMXUHM PMJLVPUMOH M ŃLŃOR XQLŃRµ MP POH

University of Bologna during their mobility period at the Université de Montréal are allowed to attend only 1 teaching

unit held in an Undergraduate Programme per semester. Moreover, Applicants enrolled in a Master Degree Programme

at the University of Bologna must have completed at least one semester before starting their mobility period at the

Université de Montréal.

other programmes. Exchange students are not allowed to take course taught in the Laval Campus, as well as courses in

Management and Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Montréal and at HEC Montréal.

Udem cannot assure Exchange students a place in the selected courses: only a limited number of students is allowed to

attend classes and mandatory attendance is required. This implies that timetable overlaps might occur, or that the

number of requests for certain courses might exceed the number of students allowed to attend them. Therefore,

applicants are recommended to be flexible and to select a wide range of suitable courses.

Language requirements

A French language proficiency level of B2 is required, as per the standards of The Common European Framework of

Reference for Languages. Proof of language proficiency can be provided through sitting the Overseas language test at

the Language Centre CLA or through a certificate.

ATTENTION: For some courses, the Université de Montréal requires a higher level of proficiency in French, e.g. the

Département de Littératures de Langue Française requires candidates to have a C2 knowledge of the French language

and the Department of Kinesiology and the School of Industrial Relations require a C1 level.

One credit is equivalent to 15 hours of work in class; most courses are of 3 credits (3 hours per week for 15 weeks).

In Undergraduate degree programmes, Exchange students have to be registered for an amount of credits ranging from

12 to 15 per trimester. In Graduate degree programmes, Exchange students have to register for an amount of credits

ranging from 6 to 9 per trimester

According to the Université de Montréal, for undergraduate courses 1 UdeM credit = 2 ECTS credits (CFU). A graduate

course of 3 credits corresponds to approximately 9 ECTS credits (CFU). 2

Only students attending a Bachelor or a Master Degree Programme at the School of Economics and Management can

apply for this exchange opportunity.

Applicants are allowed to select courses held both within Bachelor degree programmes and within Master degree

programmes at the Desautels Faculty of Management. Applicants are allowed to select only 1 course from other

Faculties. Graduate classes may have a limited number of attenders.

Prerequisites

Classes are held in English. Exchange students are allowed to attend all Faculties, except of Medicine, Dentistry,

Continuing Studies, Law, and Architecture. Exchange students are allowed to attend both undergraduate and graduate

courses and are allowed to select only one course not held at the Faculty to which they will be enrolled. Graduate

courses can have a limited number of places available.

Restrictions

Some Faculties have restrictions.

The Faculty of Engineering offers a limited number of available places in the programmes in Chemical, Civil, and

Mechanical Engineering.

The Faculty of Sciences has a limited number of available places in the programmes in Anatomy and Cell Biology,

Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Physiology.

The Faculty of Music requires a recorded audition to be assessed and strongly suggests that Exchange students start

their mobility in the Fall term.

however, several restrictions in most Departments and Schools. Please, read the following web page carefully before

Students are allowed to select courses belonging to undergraduate or graduate programmes, but cannot select courses

500-level courses are not available to exchange students. 600-level courses are generally graduate level and are only

available to students with the appropriate academic background.

Language requirements

A TOEFL iBT language certificate with an overall score of 90 is required (some Departments, such as Communication

Studies, Creative Writing and Journalism Departments require a score of 100). In order to attend Graduate courses it is

also required to have at least a 20 in each section.

Alternatively, students can provide an IELTS (Academic) language certificate with an overall score of 7.0 and at least

7.0 in each section.

Concordia University also requires to directly forward the TOEFL result by indicating the code 0956.00 as institutional

code, when registering for the test.

Students must prepare a study plan with courses belonging to one level (either undergraduate or graduate): for

undergraduate courses it is necessary to pick courses for at least 12 credits (usually 4 courses) and at most 15 credits

(usually 5 courses) for semester; for graduate courses at least 8 and at most 9 credits (usually 3 courses) for semester.

One credit unit corresponds to 45 hours of academic activity, including lectures, laboratories, tutorial and study hours.
