Abraham musste mehrere Stunden pro Tag mit Lernen ver- bringen und die restliche Zeit seinem Vater dabei helfen, die Familie irgendwie durch- zubringen. Da ihm wenig Zeit für soziale Kontakte blieb und da Abraham ohnehin das einzige Kind jüdischer Abstammung in seinem Wohnviertel war, war er, nach eigenen Angaben, ein isoliertes und unglückliches Kind, das seine Zu? ucht in Büchern suchte. Er begann schon sehr früh, sich für psychologische Literatur zu interessieren und las unter anderem Werke von Freud, Jung und Pawlow. Die Beziehung zu seinen Eltern gestaltete sich zusehends schwieriger: Vor allem te nachhaltig die Beziehung. Zudem litt Maslow unter den Herabwürdigungen durch seinen Vater. In Bezug auf seine Mutter litt Malow vor allem unter deren emotionaler takt zu ihr ablehnte.1925 Auf Wunsch seiner Eltern schrieb sich Maslow am City College von New York ein, um

lizierte auch zu diesem ? ema. Auch Edward Lee ? orndike, zu dieser Zeit Leiter der psychologischen Abteilung am Institut für Bildungsforschung der Columbia Universi- ty in New York, forschte in diesem Bereich, so dass Maslow 1935 an die Columbia Uni- und zu forschen. In den folgenden 14 Jahren am Brooklyn College, entstanden einige lektuellen, wie Adler, Fromm und Horney, die in die USA emigriert waren. Er begann sich zunehmend für die Humanistische Psychologie stark zu machen. ab 1951 Von 1951 bis 1969 übernahm Maslow den Vorsitz des Fachbereichs Psychologie an derBrandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
