Between Provence

and ǯ

Islands of Hyères

Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant offer idyllic landscapes. Fine sand beaches, turquoise waters, cliffs and pine forests form a scenic background that is dotted with countless forts. Spring and Autumn are the best seasons for exploring Port-Cros National Park.

Cape Sicié

On top of the shale cliffs, Notre-Dame du Mai invites you to ad- mire the magnificent view over the Big Blue and Toulon harbour. The paths to the East lead down to the beaches of La Seyne. To the West sits the little port of the Brusc and the archipelago of Embiez, and the Paul Ricard Oceanography Institute.

Beaches

The coastline boasts 230 beaches and coves. Seekers of vast stretches of sand bordered by turquoise waters will particularly like Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, Hyères, La Londe-les-Maures, Bormes-les- Mimosas, Le Lavandou, Fréjus and Ramatuelle, among others.

Saint-Tropez and its Gulf

After the summer crowds have gone, Saint-Tropez shows its true face. The village stands like a marine sentinel at the entrance to the Gulf, watching over its neighbours perched high above or crouched in the Maures foothills.

Toulon Bay

Surrounded by limestone hills dotted with parasol pines, this is one of the most beautiful natural harbours in Europe. Admire it from the top of Mount Faron, accessible by cable car, take a guided tour of the harbour and bay with a boatman, or visit it on the little tourist train.

Estérel, Maures and Sainte-Baume Mountains

They are representative of the high diversity of the Var landscape. In Saint-Raphaël, the red rock of Estérel plunges scenery. The Maures Mountains, in their dark green coat of cork oak and chestnut trees, follow the coastline from Roquebrune-sur-Argens to Hyères. In Autumn, a chestnut festival enlivens the villages of Collobrières, Les Mayons and Gonfaron. Sainte-Baume is a mountain wall of white limestone and a typical Provençal backdrop. It is home to a sacred forest, as well as the cave of Sainte-Marie Madeleine.

Hilltop villages of Pays de Fayence

Perched among the first foothills of the Alps, are the villages of Pays de Fayence. Hoisted to the summits of hills covered in pines and olive trees, they overlook the bay of Fréjus Saint-

Raphaël, in the distance.

Verdon Canyon

Welcome to the Verdon Canyon! At the heart of the Verdon Regional Nature Park, this huge rift appears to have been carved out by the hand of divinity. There are a whole range of activities through which you can explore this site, which is unique in France.

Saint-Maximin Basilica

The most important gothic structure in Provence, the basilica guards in its crypt the remains of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine and Saint-Maximin. It seems the former spent the last days of her life not far from here, in the Sainte-Baume Mountain cave, which is now devoted to her memory.

Provence landscapes in Dracénie

The hills surrounding Draguignan and the neighbouring villages are typical Provence landscapes of vineyard, forest and olive groves. They are a backdrop to a terroir of excellence: wine, olive oil, honey, farm-produced cheese, etc.

Sensitive Natural Areas

These sites have been developed by the Var council to ensure visitors enjoy them in conditions that are ideal for both Man and Nature. As you progress along the paths, please be mindful of the quality of this unspoilt environment.

The Abbeys and Carthusian Monastery

The Abbey of Le Thoronet is a Cistercian wonder that has to be seen, in the heart of the Mediterranean forest of Var. You can also explore the Abbey of La Celle in Provence Verte, and the majestic Carthusian monastery of La Verne in the midst of the

Maures mountains.

Gastronomy and Wine

The gastronomy of the Var and Provence is concocted with local produce filled with sun-drenched flavour that will delight your tastebuds. The Var is a must for wine-lovers, with 3 AOP wines that are enjoyed all over the world, and an increasing offer of stays and activities arDzdz

Wines and Vines

The wines of Var boast the most ancient vineyard in France. They are produced from traditional sun-loving grape varieties, of which the first vine stock was introduced here 2,600 years ago. Nowadays, the Var vineyard produces three AOP wines: Côtes de Provence, Bandol and Coteaux Varois en Provence. There is also a The Var is worldwide known as the biggest producer of rosé wines on the planet. The winegrowers, and associa- tions like the rosé centre in Vidauban, work together to improve the quality and taste of rosé wines. The rosé cen- tre proposes several different hues with emphasis on dif- ferent aromas.

Var Gastronomy

The sun-drenched cuisine of Var is truly a way of life and a pure moment of pleasure and conviviality. Light and healthy, it will take you on a journey through the flavours of the South. There are numerous local specialities to regale your palate: daube provençale, grilled fish, pistou soup, and many more. To discover all these local delights, stroll between the market stalls of some of the best Provence markets in France. You can see the arrival of freshly- caught fish, and buy fruit and vegetables that have ripened in the sun. Alcohol can damage your health. Please drink responsibly Incentive agencies have found a vast open-air playground in this French department. On dry land, in the water or in the skies, business tourism is a very different experience here, thanks to the wide range of traditional or more atypical activities provided by Mother Nature and the destination management agencies. Busi- ness tourism is based around modestly-sized organisations (winegrowing estates, exceptional reception venues, historic ho- tels), as well as large convention centres all along the coast, all easily accessible thanks to the train stations and international airports. Our numerous courses reflect the Var"s determination since more than 30 years, to position itself as both a national and international golfing destination, similarly to Spain and Portugal. The Var"s first golf course dates back to 1895! 122 years later, this fabulous golfing destination attract players from all over the and original courses, which are open all year round. Designed by worldwide renowned architects, these highly technical layouts reveal all the hidden beauties of the Var, from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea to the foothills of the Upper Var, and fragrant pinewoods to cool forests of cork oaks. Confirmed and amateur golfers alike will enjoy trying out their latest technical prowess in the Var and experiencing some great rounds in a truly preserved environment. Aside from the major venues welcoming famous international challenges, our beautiful courses, nestling among vines and olive trees or carved into hillsides sloping down towards the Mediterranean, combine all the authenticity of a natural environment and the professionalism expected of a serious golfing location.
