About MediaCentral | Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro

Adobe Premiere Pro users can now access the power of the Avid MediaCentral Platform from within Adobe Premiere Pro using a dedicated panel (the Adobe Premiere Pro Panel). For MediaCentral Cloud UX, the panel enables a roundtrip workflow with Avid's asset management systems by connecting an Adobe Premiere Pro editor to Avid MediaCentral | Production

Management and MediaCentral | Asset Management.

Editors working in Adobe Premiere Pro can access production assets and associated metadata across Production Management and Asset Management systems using MediaCentral Cloud UX. They can import and edit MediaCentral Cloud UX basic and advanced sequences in a variety of Adobe Premiere Pro supported formats directly from Avid shared-storage workspaces. Using the MediaCentral | Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro editors can also export the active sequence from Adobe Premiere Pro to MediaCentral Production Management or MediaCentral Asset Management in the format and resolution of choice. This guide references elements of the MediaCentral Cloud UX user interface, such as the Fast Bar, the Asset Editor, the Browse and Search apps, and more. Users are expected to have a good working knowledge of the MediaCentral Cloud UX software. If you need more information about these or other areas of MediaCentral Cloud UX, see the Avid MediaCentral | Cloud UX User Guide.

Feature Description

Ability to use Adobe Premiere

Pro to check-in to Production

Management to Media Composer

Roundtrip We now support the ability to get material from Production Management to an Adobe Premiere Pro project. This enables the Adobe Premiere Pro user to take material from the Production Management system only, and add it to their Adobe Premiere Pro project and create a sequence from it. When they are done, they can checkin the sequence to Production Management. A Media Composer user can then find that sequence, and drag and drop it from the MediaCentral | Media Composer panel into their Media Composer bin. Then, the normal relink process will begin from there. The user will need to relink back to the original Adobe content. For more information, see "Checking In Adobe Premiere Pro Sequences to

Production Management" on page 73.

New Features in 2021.3

5 Markers and Spans Round-trip We now have the ability to add markers in MediaCentral Cloud UX to a Master clip, sub clip or sequence. Then, when these clips are brought into Adobe Premiere Pro via the MediaCentral Panel, the markers will appear on the timeline, and in the Source and Record windows with their associated comments. You can also add markers in MediaCentral Cloud UX via the Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro, and these markers will round-trip as well. For more information, see "Adding Markers And Spans Roundtrip" on page 64. Restrictions Restrictions on master clips are now imported into Adobe Premiere Pro.

MediaCentral Media Files Plugin

Fixed Issues in Version 2021.3

The following items were fixed in version 2021.3:

aBug Number: PLAD-663. Some icons (e.g., the Avid NEXIS System icon) might not display the latest icon artwork. aBug Number: TI-11004. When the preset picker is available, picking a preset manually with the

pick file function that is opened when you click the folder icon results in the preset picker showing

'Select a preset...' default value/message instead of the custom preset path that was just selected. aBug Number: TI-11533. In the MediaCentral Cloud UX Browse App, there is no Timebase

Metadata (such as Markers) for Sequences.

Known Issues in Version 2021.3

The MediaCentral | Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro does not support multi-site setups, which were introduced with MediaCentral Cloud UX v2019.6 in the Browse app. Therefore remote systems are not displayed so that you only see the local systems you can use. In the Search app, however, assets from remote systems can appear in search results lists. Remote assets are indicated by a downward-pointing arrow and a warning icon. You cannot use remote assets in the import and export round-trip workflows. When you double-click a remote asset a message opens indicating that "Remote assets are not supported when Cloud UX is

embedded inside another application." If you select several assets in the Search app results list and

your selection contains local and remote assets, the remote assets are excluded as soon as you apply an action. aBug Number: TI-10862. Only certain Encoder Presets are usable for export to Media Asset Management causing the Media Asset Management import process to support only import of plain files and folders. Some encoder presets create folder structure such as camera folder that are not supported by Media Asset Management import process. aBug Number: TI-10130. When a shotlist from an MediaCentral Asset Management system is imported into Adobe Premiere Pro, a sequence with the main title of the sequence object will be created. The name displayed in the Asset Management folder is the name of the link pointing to the actual sequence object. aBug Number: TI-10968. You cannot create a Production next to another Production that starts with the same name (e.g., if you have a Production named "Prod1", you cannot create a Production named "Prod2."). aBug Number: TI-10812. In the Metadata Mapping Management app, when mapping compound attributes (with more than one level of mapping), the sub-level does not map back to the source attribute.

New Features in 2021.3

7 aBug Number: TI-10972. In the Browse app, when you are at the top (root) level of the Production, and right-click, there is no menu item for Create Project from Template. However, in subfolders, within a Production, Create Project from Template works as expected. aBug Number: TI-11123. The Markers panel inside Adobe Premiere Pro displays incorrect timecodes. However, the Marker dialog box does show the correct values. aBug Number: TI-11502. Master clips in Production Management that were created either by capturing from video by Media Composer, AirSpeed 5000 or AirSpeed 5500, or Fastserve, do not have the proper timecode when imported into Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe Premiere Pro starts all timecode at 00:00:00:00, no matter what the starting timecode is on the Production Management side. aBug Number: TI-11522. In the Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro, when starting on a new project, or if a folder has not been double-clicked, the insertionBin may be null, causing imported items to remain

in a temp import folder. Once a bin has been double clicked, Premiere will set the insertion bin to that

folder and newly imported media will be placed there. aBug Number: TI-11551. In MediaCentral Cloud UX, if you create a Production Management sequence, restrictions that appear in the Cloud UX Production Management sequence do not import into Adobe Premiere Pro. However, master clips with restrictions do successfully import into Adobe Premiere Pro. Also, if the master clips are imported into Adobe Premiere Pro first (restrictions are now visible in Adobe Premiere Pro on master clips), then the Production Management sequence is imported into Adobe Premiere Pro, and the restrictions will be visible in the Adobe Premiere Pro sequence timeline. aBug Number: TI-11552. In MediaCentral Cloud UX, if you create a Production Management

sequence with master clips containing restrictions, the restrictions are not visible for sequences in the

Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro Player monitor. However, master clips with restrictions can be seen in the Adobe Panel Player monitor, so the problem is only for sequences. aBug Number: TI-11553. Restrictions on Adobe Premiere Pro sequences do not export to Production Management if the restrictions were added in Adobe Premiere Pro. aBug Number: TI-11568. Mixed frame rate clips are not supported. Also, audio-only clips from Production Management can prevent the check-in of sequences from the MediaCentral Panel for

Adobe Premiere Pro to Production Management.

OP-Atom Limitations

The MediaCentral | Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro has the following limitations when working with formats in native Avid format (OP-Atom) if the MediaCentral | Media Files Plugin is not installed: When connecting to Production Management, in-place editing is only possible with the format families listed in "MediaCentral | Production Management Compatibility Validation and Limitations" on page 21. Note that a current Premiere incompatibility with certain AVC-I formats created by Avid may affect the ability to use AVC-I as a format. For in-place editing, the MediaCentral | Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro passes the Avid asset metadata (AAF) directly to Premiere Pro. The Adobe Panel fully supports only simple sequences even though more sequence detail may come across for suitable sequences. Access to clips that are being recorded (referred to as growing files, in-progress clips, or EWC) is not supported.

New Features in 2021.3

8 For formats not supported by Premiere in OP-Atom wrappers (for example, XDCAM HD), media is rewrapped to MXF OP-1a and the AAF metadata is converted to an XML shotlist if the optional MediaCentral Ingest service is available. The following limitations apply: AAF information is simplified with a focus on bringing as much media as possible across to Adobe Premiere Pro. Depending on the complexity of the original sequence, the "simplified" sequence created by the Convert feature may differ significantly from the source sequence. For example, for sequences with multiple video tracks, all video segments will be grouped on a single video track in the shotlist. Effects and more complex structures will be discarded. At the other end of the spectrum, source sequences that already resemble a shotlist should transfer largely unaltered. The shotlist conversion function supports sequences, master clips, and subclips. The clip format generated by Avid Capture is not supported; also any EWC scenario or access to growing source files is not supported. The Convert option does not support converting from segmented source clips. Source clips need to have a single piece of media covering the entire span of the clip for OP-1a conversion to be possible. For example, you cannot convert Avid Airspeed segmented recordings or AMA- generated spanning source clips if the time span to convert includes a segment boundary. OP-1a conversion is limited to a subset of native Avid formats. Some formats that are supported in Production Management (for example, ProRes) cannot be rewrapped to MXF OP-1a, or are not supported in Premiere. Media will be converted partially, using a handle length that can be configured in the MediaCentral Ingest option. Conversion to OP-1a (using the Avid MediaCentral Ingest option) is a sequential operation. Multiple Adobe workstations can request conversions in parallel, but an individual conversion process is sequential. While the conversion is in progress, the MediaCentral Cloud UX panel in Premiere Pro will be unavailable, showing the progress dialog. You can, however, continue to work in Premiere while the conversion is in progress. Converting from native Avid formats to OP-1a can be a time consuming process. Depending on the media format, conversion can be two through five time faster than real time so a 10-minute master clip will require minutes to convert. Sequences with many cuts and short segments will further increase the time required for conversion. Take this into account when planning your workflows. When sequences are transferred from Production Management workgroups using the Convert option, the sequence parameters are not transferred. Converted sequences are created in Premiere using Premiere's default settings, such as NTSC DV. Clips that do not match the sequence default format may appear incorrectly framed and show incorrect aspect ratios. To correct this, use Premiere's Sequence settings menu item to set up the sequence according to the desired working settings, which should usually match your source clip format. The Convert feature is designed as fallback for short sequences containing media that Premiere cannot import directly. Attempting to convert large and complex sequences can be very time consuming and is not recommended. The MediaCentral | Panel for Adobe Premiere Pro does not clean up intermediate results such as exported timelines or Avid sequences converted to OP-1a. Administrators are required to clean up the exchange shares on a regular basis. For assets converted to OP-1a, Avid recommends using the Premiere project manager to consolidate and archive the required OP-1a media before deleting. Since configuration of the exchange share is possible on a per-client basis, Avid recommends setting up an individual sub-folder for every client on the exchange share to simplify management of incoming and outgoing media.
