and this report shows that trend to be strongly established and continuing. This is a very important and useful message for all concerned, but especially for policymakers who may hold outdated views about the role and position of higher education careers services. Higher visibility usually comes with greater accountability and the need to comply with measures of success, which are often metrics driven. Student, institutional and regulatory expectations have increased, and this report shows this has translated into increased resourcing in just under half of the services responding to the survey. Where this is the case, there are suggestions that in some cases increased resources are insucient to meet demand. Either way, this survey can only show glimpses of the innovation and ingenuity of AGCAS members in balancing resourcing and expectations. My own view is that this particular aspect is worthy of some follow-up work. The report also shows some of the ambiguities and challenges raised by specic initiatives.
