Biosafety permit zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, like most countries in Africa, has gone through difficult times in trying to balance the judicious use of biotechnology for socioeconomic development and addressing the possible threats of some aspects of modern biotechnology on the national economy, human health, socio-cultural interests, and the environment.

Biosafety permits help the university track its activities with biological materials.
All labs using biological materials are subject to inspection by the biosafety program officer or their designate.

The Zimbabwe Exemption Permit is a special dispensation document that was established more than 10 years ago and it provided legal protection to a number of Zimbabweans who live, work and study in South Africa.

In 2005, Zimbabwe became a party to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
In the same year again, the country received a grant from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/Global Environment Facility (GEF) project for developing national biosafety frameworks.
