  • Though Ethiopia shall exercise its criminal jurisdiction over anyone who has committed a crime in Ethiopia, it may delegate its jurisdiction to a foreign country in which the foreigner has taken refuge and his extradition cannot be obtained.

How are petty offences governed in Ethiopia?

They shall be governed as a rule by the principle of territoriality (Art. 11). (2)Petty offences committed in Ethiopia shall always be tried in accordance with Ethiopian law when the petty offender is in Ethiopia.

This Penal Code is what we have been using for almost 44 years now.
The law books reflect the attitude of the culture.
But it is ridiculous to still maintain such laws (Original Wolde Giorgis of EWLA) at the present.
EWLA should be commended for what they have been doing on behalf of all Ethiopian women.
