Dewey, after being found to be the one who murdered Cassandra Pressman, was put on trial by Allie, and found guilty by an independent jury.

Regardless, however, the jury find Dewey guilty, and, in anger, he admits to Cassandra's murder. Dewey reveals that he did it for the good of the town, that Cassandra was a problem and he got the idea from Harry, who had wished her dead not long before her murder.
