Externally mandated metrics, which are necessary to remain in compliance, have their place in every quality plan.
A brief overview of the current regulatory environ- ment in cytopathology is outlined in Table 2.1,2,11–14 In addition, we have listed several previously reported ideas for optional (internally mandated) metrics.
