Natural dental anatomy

  • What is the anatomy of the natural teeth?

The tooth has two anatomical parts, the crown and the root.
The crown is the top part that is exposed and visible above the gum (gingiva).
It is covered with enamel, which protects the underlying dentine.
The root of a tooth descends below the gum line anchoring the tooth in the mouth..

  • What is the natural structure of teeth?

    Structure of the Tooth
A tooth consists of enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp tissue.
The portion of a tooth exposed to the oral cavity is known as the dental crown, and the portion below the dental crown is known as the tooth root..

  • Natural teeth are designed to efficiently break down food and aid in the process of digestion.
And since teeth are connected to the jawbone, the process of chewing helps to maintain the bone's health and strength.

The Anatomy of a Tooth Your teeth are composed of hard (calcified) and soft (non-calcified) dental tissues. Enamel, dentin and cementum are hard tissues. Pulp, or the center of the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue—is a soft tissue.

Are natural teeth a reference?

Natural teeth are always considered to be a reference while employing biomimetic approaches to restore diseased or fractured dental tissues

Human teeth have a complex structure with an inner core of highly vascular, soft, and delicate pulp surrounded by the highly mineralized enamel and dentin tissues ( Figure 1 )
