Airplane lesson plans for kindergarten

How do you fly a paper airplane?

Time to fly your plane! Children will have more success if the paper airplane nose is heavier than the tail section

This is usually accomplished with some extra folds

If the nose drops and the plane dives into the ground, bend up the back of the wings

A little bend goes a long way

If the nose rises first and then drops, the plane is stalling

How do you teach a child about airplanes?

For a learning game, give the children a toy airplane, and tell them to follow your directions

Use spatial commands, and have the children stand near the airplane, beside the airplane, under the airplane (hold it above the head), in front of the airplane, or behind the airplane

Use shoeboxes to make airplane hangers for these planes

Should preschoolers fold their planes?

Young preschoolers may need assistance folding their planes

Toddlers will enjoy chasing after planes thrown by older people and bringing them back for another flight

Allow children to decorate and personalize the paper prior to folding the design

More experienced children can tackle folding designs for specific flight outcomes
