  • What does altered mean for a dog?

    When someone says an animal is “fixed” or “altered” that means the animal has been spayed or neutered.
    PAWS spays and neuters every animal adopted from our shelter, even those as young as eight-weeks-old.
    We also recommend that people have their pets altered as soon as possible..

  • The ASPCA's mission is to "provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States." The ASPCA works to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws, and share resources with shelters nationwide.
  • Three's the limit: You are allowed to own a maximum of three dogs in Toronto.
    Pet parents are not allowed to walk more than three dogs at a time in the city unless they have a commercial pet walker's permit.
  • Toronto residents can surrender their pets (living or deceased).
    To schedule an appointment to surrender a pet, call 416-338-PAWS (7297) between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. so that you can be transferred to the shelter closest to you.

Cats are available for adoption at PetSmart

Dogs are being sent out on ASPCA transport to shelters up North for adoption

Animal intakes are by appointment only
