Manchester Cytology Centre is one of the largest cervical screening laboratories in the UK and provides diagnostic and population screening to women in the North West with the use of high-risk HPV testing and ThinPrep liquid based cytology.
The department is affiliated to the North of England Pathology and Screening Education Centre (Manchester).
The Cytology and Virology departments and the regional Education Centre are situated within the Clinical Sciences Centre at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
The UK NHS Mycology Reference Centre Manchester (MRCM) is situated on the second floor of the Education & Research Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital.
The MRCM provides specialist mycology diagnostic services for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and hospitals throughout Greater Manchester and the UK.
INTRODUCTION The Manchester Cytology Centre was selected in 2019 as the preferred bidder to deliver the cervical screening programme for the North West area using high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing as the primary screening test.
