This list of Volkswagen Group factories details the current and former manufacturing facilities operated by the automotive concern Volkswagen Group, and its subsidiaries.
These include its mainstream marques of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, along with their premium marques of Ducati, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bentley, and Bugatti, and also includes plants of their major controlling interest in the Swedish truck-maker Scania.

The Volkswagen emissions scandal, sometimes known as Dieselgate or Emissionsgate, began in September 2015, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a notice of violation of the Clean Air Act to German automaker Volkswagen Group.
The agency had found that Volkswagen had intentionally programmed turbocharged direct injection (TDI) diesel engines to activate their emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing, which caused the vehicles' chemf nowrap>NOx output to meet US standards during regulatory testing.
However, the vehicles emitted up to 40 times more chemf nowrap>NOx in real-world driving.
Volkswagen deployed this software in about 11 million cars worldwide, including 500,000 in the United States, in model years 2009 through 2015.

It was first introduced in the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 in late 2012.
Volkswagen spent roughly $8bn developing this new platform and the cars employing it.
The platform underpins a wide range of cars from the supermini class to the mid size SUV class.
MQB allows Volkswagen to assemble any of its cars based on this platform across all of its MQB ready factories.
This allows the Volkswagen group flexibility to shift production as needed between its different factories.
Beginning in 2012, Volkswagen Group marketed the strategy under the code name MQB, which stands for Modularer Querbaukasten, translating from German to Modular Transversal Toolkit or Modular Transverse Matrix.
MQB is one strategy within VW's overall MB program which also includes the similar MLB strategy for vehicles with longitudinal engine orientation.
