Maxillary dental anatomy

  • What are the 4 canals in the maxillary molar?

Maxillary Molars are known to have a fourth canal (Mesiobuccal Second or Mesiolingual canal), located in the Mesiobuccal root.
The presence of such canals was first reported by Hess in 1925.
The presence of the MB2 canal in maxillary first molars is said to range from 50% to 90% of cases..

What Are Maxillary Teeth? Posted on June 27th, 2020.
The upper teeth formed along the maxillary jawbone are called “maxillary teeth” and include the top incisors, molars, premolars, and canines..

  • What is the anatomy of the maxillary teeth?

The maxillary first molars are three rooted, two buccal and one palatal.
The mesiobuccal root is broad in the buccopalatal plane and narrow in the mesiodistal plane, similar to a maxillary premolar root configuration.
The root generally exits the crown mesially and can abruptly curve distally..

  • What is the difference between maxillary and mandibular?

Maxillary molars are present in the upper jaw, whereas mandibular molars exist in the lower jaw..

  • What is the morphology of the maxillary molar?

    External root morphology
The maxillary first molar normally has three roots.
The mesiobuccal root is broad distobuccal and has prominent depressions or flutings on its mesial and distal surfaces.
The internal canal morphology is highly variable, but the majority of the mesiobuccal roots contain two canals..

  • A rare dental trait that is more common in Asian and Native American populations – three-rooted molars – could have its origins in trysts with our archaic relatives, the Denisovans, according to new research.
  • In human dentistry, the maxillary canine is the tooth located laterally (away from the midline of the face) from both maxillary lateral incisors of the mouth but mesial (toward the midline of the face) from both maxillary first premolars.
Maxillary molars have two buccal cusps and two lingual cusps. A fifth cusp that may form on the maxillary first molar is known as the cusp of Carabelli. Mandibular molars may have five or four cusps.
The term, "maxillary", is given to teeth in the upper jaw and "mandibular" to those in the lower jaw. There are four classes of teeth: incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. Premolars are found only in permanent teeth; there are no premolars in deciduous teeth.

Maxillary dental anatomy
The maxillary hiatus is the opening of a maxillary sinus into the middle nasal meatus of the nasal cavity.
It is situated superoposteriorly upon the lateral nasal wall, opening into the nasal cavity at the posterior portion of the ethmoidal infundibulum.
Its opening in the maxillary sinus is present upon the superior part of the medial wall of the sinus near the roof of the sinus; because of the position, gravity cannot drain the maxillary sinus contents when the head is erect.

Branch of the trigeminal nerve responsible for the mid-face

In neuroanatomy, the maxillary nerve (V2) is one of the three branches or divisions of the trigeminal nerve, the fifth (CN V) cranial nerve.
It comprises the principal functions of sensation from the maxilla, nasal cavity, sinuses, the palate and subsequently that of the mid-face, and is intermediate, both in position and size, between the ophthalmic nerve and the mandibular nerve.
