Introduction
This document provides IT administrators the means to automate the deployment of the Java environment required by the Océ Print Exec Workgroup application. The deployment described is made on Windows client workstations.6 Océ Print Exec Workgroup -Guideline for automated deployment of the Java environment
Java environment for Océ Print Exec
Workgroup
Océ Print Exec Workgroup is a web-based application using Java applets. The application is located on the Océ Power Logic Controller (application server) and requires the installation of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) components on the client workstations. Océ Print Exec Workgroup 1.3 (and higher) requires:?JRE 1.4.2_04 or higher (JRE 1.4.2_07 or higher is highly recommended since it includes several bugs fixes and security improvements).
?JAI 1.1.1_01 or higher. Océ Print Exec Workgroup 1.3 LT (and higher) requires:?JRE 1.4.2_04 or higher (JRE 1.4.2_07 or higher is highly recommended since it includes several bugs fixes and security improvements).
Administration rights required In case you want to install the Java components on a client station, you need the administrator rights on this station to deploy the JRE and JAI from the Océ Print Exec Workgroup application. Scope This document describes the automated installation of the Java components on Windows clients only (JRE is installed by default on Mac OSX environment).
Automated deployment IT administrators that manage many Windows-based computers often use tools to deploy applications on an entire infrastructure automatically. The goal of this document is to help them to deploy componentsOcé Print Exec Workgroup needs: JRE and JAI.
Note:This memo assumes IT administrators are familiar with deployment tools.Introduction7
Silent installation for automated
deployment IT administrators can use a tool to deploy applications remotely on a computer network (e.g. Syscript). To use such a tool, they need to run its installer without user interaction (meaning without interface windows to accept software license, to choose options, installation directory, etc). A solution is to use a command line including all the arguments to pass the information to the installer. Therefore, it avoids further user interaction. This is called 'silent installation'. This document explains how to install and deploy the JRE and JAI silently. Note:Consult your administration tool documentation to know how to launch the silent installers with administrator rights on your entire Windows computers network. To install the Java components, follow the procedure described in Chapter 2: 1Java Runtime Environment installation.
2Java Advanced Imaging installation.

Java Runtime Environment installation
Download the Java Runtime Environment
You can retrieve the JRE:
?From you Océ print controller: - either by clicking on the direct link on the Océ Print Exec Workgroup user interface. - or by downloading the 'http://yourcontroller/jpi/j2re-1_4_2_07-windows-i586-p.exe' file on your browser.?From the Océ Print Exec for Workgroup upgrade CD: the file is located on the 'data\plugin\win32' folder.
?From the Sun web site 'http://java.com/', by selecting 'Manual download' and then 'Windows (Offline Installation)'.
Java Runtime Environment silent installation
To install the JRE silently, the command and its arguments are (on one line): j2re-1_4_2_07-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre_1-4-2 IEXPLORER=1 NETSCAPE6=1 MOZILLA=1WEBSTARTICON=0"
Attention: There should be no space between the /v and the quote ("). In Sun documentation, you may see a space here, but as it is an offline installation, it must be removed. "IEXPLORE=1", "NETSCAPE6=1" and "MOZILLA=1" Optional arguments meaning that the JRE must be registered with your browsers: respectively Internet Explorer, Netscape 6 or later and Mozilla 1.1 or later. "WEBSTARTICON=0" Optional argument avoiding the creation of a 'Java Web Start' icon on the desktop. Java Runtime Environment / Java Advanced Imaging installation 11 "INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre_1-4-2" Optional argument allowing to choose another directory than the default one (important when you install JAI afterwards: JAI must be installed in the same directory).Note:Do not insert a space in the directory name.
Default is "C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_07" if "C:" is the system drive. Attention: The installer does not work if the same version of the JRE is already installed. Consequence is the JRE will still be available at the former place, but not at the expected location. This may cause a problem as JAI installation must be done in the same folder than the JRE.Solution is:
- either uninstalling the existing JRE and reinstalling it in the expected folder, - or making sure to install JAI in the same folder as the existing JRE. Note:A similar problem happens if a newer version of the JRE is already installed. The installer works correctly but the browser will still use the newer version previously installed.12 Océ Print Exec Workgroup -Guideline for automated deployment of the Java environment
Java Advanced Imaging installation
JAI is an extension of the JRE used in the viewer functionality of Océ Print Exec Workgroup. It must be installed after the JRE and in the same directory. Océ Print Exec Workgroup LT does not require JAI, only the full version does.Download the Java Advanced Imaging
You can retrieve JAI:
?From your Océ print controller: - either by clicking on the direct link on the Océ Print Exec Workgroup user interface. - or by downloading the 'http://yourcontroller/jpi/jai-1_1_1_01-lib-windows-i586-jre.exe' file on your browser.?From the Océ Print Exec for Workgroup upgrade CD: the file is located on the 'data\plugin\win32' folder.
?From the Sun web site: 'http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jai/'.Response file generation
JAI silent installation requires a response file. A response file provides all information needed during installation. You obtain it by launching the installer in recording mode.Generate the response file
1Log-on as administrator on a computer.
2Install the JRE as it will be on your entire park.
3Record the response file by launching JAI installer from a command prompt
with the following arguments (on one line): jai-1_1_1_01-lib-windows-i586-jre.exe -r -a -r -f1"C:\tmp\silent.iss" Note: Argument after '-f1' is the full path of the response file.4Perform the interactive installation to the end.
Java Runtime Environment / Java Advanced Imaging installation 13 Attention: The JAI location MUST be the JRE directory (the installer should propose it by default). As JAI is an extension of the JRE, it will not work if it is installed elsewhere than within the JRE. This location is included in the response file. So be sure all the computers where you will install JAI using this response file have the JRE installed at the same place. You may have a problem if computers in your infrastructure have different system drives. If you let the JRE installer use default installation location, it will not be the same everywhere.Solution is:
?either installing the JRE specifying explicitly its location using the "INSTALLDIR" argument ('C:\Java\jre_1-4-2' in the example).
?or using different JAI installer response files according to the system drives.Example of a JAI response file

Once you have the response file, you can install JAI silently using the following arguments (on one line): jai-1_1_1_01-lib-windows-i586-jre.exe -s -a -s -f1"C:\tmp\silent.iss" Note: Argument after "-f1" is the full path of the response file.quotesdbs_dbs33.pdfusesText_39[PDF] Les clés de la réussite
